Ireland coach Stephen Watt has paid tribute to his players' efforts in guaranteeing themselves a top four finish at the European U18 Championships in Poland.

The Irish lads are in with a shout of claiming a set of medals for the third year in a row.

Two years ago they struck gold and last season secured silver.

They face Holland today before playing Belgium tomorrow in two tough matches.

"Those are probably the best two teams in the tournament," Watt warned.

"But I'm delighted with the players' progress so far and many people have commented on that. You have to remember that basically the same group of players were involved in a relegation play off at U16 level."

However the fatigue factor could come into play and it could literally be a case of survival of the fittest.
