Bodimeade... USA Coach, attemps to convince folks that he has made some sort of progress with his players. He plays a less than top performing Spain team, the only team that the USA could win and says look how far we have come. He goes out with a different line up every game, no consistancy on the field and thinks that his team will somehow come together...
I think planes head south daily...

To sceptic
I saw 2 of the games down there and the US was in both of them. In saying that the basic skills were the problem. Lack of composure cost them at least one of the games. Lee and the coaching staff have to teach a lot of these players’ basic skills before they can perform like a quality international team.
Yes result matter, but by the looks of things the future will produce the results needed. Time to let the staff do what they need to do and be more positive. Negativity will put the USFHA in the same place, as they were when TB was here.

To USFHA What a Joke
Lets look at what you wrote.
"In saying that the basic skills were the problem. Lack of composure cost them at least one of the games"
Were you at Convention in 2003 - Tracy Belbin said the same thing and we had finished ninth at the WC. People didnt agree back then and unfortunatley that was the beginning of the end for her.
"Lee and the coaching staff have to teach a lot of these players’ basic skills before they can perform like a quality international team."
I think you will find that Tracey, Tess and Steve were in the process of teaching the players these skills. Ninth at the WC was a very good result. Ask anyone who played on that team.
"Time to let the staff do what they need to do and be more positive. Negativity will put the USFHA in the same place, as they were when TB was here."
Oh well I say. If people had of kept their negativity to themselves after the trials in 2003 maybe we would of continued on to Athens. I think the folks at our national association would pay big money to go back to Feb 2003 and where we where when TB was here. Where have we gone in nearly 2 and a half years. We have taken the team backwards, alienated a lot of our best players and gone nowhere.
I think it is great that Terry, Lee, Steve and Justine have come in. Someone needs to get hold of Terry Walsh and tell him why certain players wont play again though. There is a certain coach still there that worked under Beth. People wont come back while he is still there. We remember how he spoke to us, we remember how he treated us.....

TO Ex Player
Your last few lines are dead on.
This individual needs to go. Hopefully this will happen and the USFHA can then find a coach who the players will work with.

USA are already looking better
Give the aussies( lee, terry ) & nick a fair chance to showcase their competence.Anyone who saw the series in NZealand will tell u what an improvement to the CChallenge. Its the small details which arent always identified by the public.Yes,the results arent what the fans would like to see but u need to appreciate where usa hockey sits in worldly terms.I think even those div 1 college coaches on the coaching course experienced an epiphany.
The long term improvement at the top level is temporary until the levels below begin to flourish ie school, college. You've got the numbers;get more coaches and give it 5-10 years then we can have this discussion again.Bear in mind, the usa was the lowest ranked team and they beat a team ranked above them twice.Look at the scores, losing by one quite often. At the team matures, that will turn into draws and wins.

Thank you. You understand what it takes to improve the national team and elite programs. The problem is that you have a pool of 1,850 or so high schools and more than 300 universities who steward and steer young athletes. Some of them "mail in" their jobs, to the point that they not only don't know the little things that players need to know, they don't know that they don't know.
It's like when I asked a kid last year, after knocking in unstoppable corner shots to win a state championship, whether she was going to Festival, she responded, "No, I'm going home." Here's a kid with obvious talent, on a great team, and she didn't even know what the National Festival was.
It's like those teams who still teach their kids to recklessly tackle from the left, or who have players who repeat the same mistakes over and over again. It's like a number of small university teams who are completely flummoxed when another team carries the ball with skill and pace instead of playing hit-and-run.
The United States will only improve when the grass-roots programs improve. No amount of camps can compensate for years of playing "big ball" on bad grass.
