After dominating Portugal in their final group game Wales go through to the top half of the draw. In From the outset Wales pressed hard and Portugal retreated into their half for virtually the whole thirty-five minutes. Only the odd breakaway lightened the load but they never really threatened. Despite this domination Wales had to rely on well-taken penalty flick by captain Ben Edge to break the deadlock. Despite the heat Wales stepped up their game in the second half and Portugal had no answer.
The 4 ? 0 result flatters Portugal as three further times the ball was retrieved from their net only for the goals to be disallowed. Finishing second in their group they move into the top-half of the draw with a rest day tomorrow. Friday sees the first game of the second round with Wales hopes of promotion still alive.
