A new experience for the Black Sticks men's hockey team on their European tour.


The squad is in France, a country hardly known for its hockey prowess, with the national side ranked 18th in the world.


Kiwi midfielder Blair Hopping says very few of the players have ever been to France.


Hopping says the facilities are a little unusual, and the turf looks huge at first glance.


He says it is mainly used for soccer so it is a big open area with the turf lines painted on, rather than a sole purpose hockey ground.


New Zealand plays two tests against France this weekend, before matches against Belgium and the Netherlands.
