There was double success for Scotland in the European Youth Championships yesterday, the men defeating Spain 3-1 in Poland, while in Lithuania, the women beat Russia 5-0.
A first half blitz upset the Spanish, Michael Christie waltzing past three defenders before passing the ball to Iain Scholefield to volley the home. Further goals came from 15-year-old Kenny Bain from a low drag flick at a penalty corner and a strike from Christie.
The women also started brightly, with Aisling Coyle opening the account. Amy Rowan scored the second and Coyle made it three before the interval. After the break, Nikki Kidd was tripped in the circle, and she then slotted home the resulting penalty. The scoring was completed by Katie Connor.
