The New Zealand women's hockey team have drawn the first match of the Champions Challenge with England 1-all at Virgin Beach in the United States.

Lisa King opened the scoring for England in the 27th minute, deflecting the ball high into the left hand side of the goal after a strong right hand side attack.

The Black Sticks responded shortly after half time in the 38th minute when Kayla Sharland scored through a powerful shot.
