Australia will play reigning champion India in the semi-finals of the mens Junior Hockey World Cup after being relegated to second spot in its pool by Argentina.

The Burras had already secured their place in the final four, but failed to keep alive a five-game unbeaten streak in the tournament when they were toppled 3-1 by Argentina in Rotterdam, Holland.

Iain Davidson scored Australias lone goal, a 49th minute equaliser, before Argentina rammed home two penalty corners in the final 10 minutes.

Australia will now meet India tomorrow morning for a place in the final of the world under-21 championships.

Tough Call for India
I hope Junior Indian Team is better in handling pressure unlike Indian Hockey team.
It will be a good match and interesting too to see how Indian's will handle playing with a more facilitated team. Being a cricket fan and seeing Australia becoming an unbeatable team I truly feel Australians put all they have in a game and know to take best out of their players. I hope I am wrong and young Indians show a promising game and zeal to be world leader of the future Hockey. My best is on your side, make India proud.

SEMI FINAL UPDATE AT HALF TIME
INDIA SCORE FIRST GOAL THROUGH SENTHIL IN 20TH MINUTE. INDIA PLAYING ATTACKING HOCKEY COUNTERING THE AUSSIES AND THE MATCH IS VERY INTERESTING AND FAST PACED. KNOWLES HITS THE INDIAN CROSS BAR OFF A COUNTER IN THE 18TH MINUTE. AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE APPEARS WEAKER OF THE TWO AND THAT IS MAKING THE DIFFERENCE GIVING INDIA MORE ATTEMPTS AT GOAL. AUSTRALIA MISS AN EASY CHANCE THROUGH A COLIN/ DANIEL COMBINATION. INDIA LOOKING VERY GOOD IN COUNTERS AS THEY ARE GIVING THE AUSSIE MID FIELD THE SLIP USING THE FLANKS. BAD TURNOVER CONCEDED AND FIRST PC CONCEDED TO AUSTRALIA WHICH IS SAVED BY FIRST RUNNER, AND A GOOD COUNTER LAUNCHED. INDIA ALLOWING AUSTRALIA TO KEEP POSSESSION AND ROTATE THE BALL IN THEIR DEEP DEFENSE. INDIA EARN 2ND PC IN 30TH MINUTE. SANDEEP SINGH DRAGS SPEEDY SECOND GOAL FOR INDIA. AUSSIE GOALIE LEFT STRANDED. AUSTRALIAN DEFENSE TOTALLY CONFUSED AND NOT CO-ORDINATING. 2ND PC FOR AUSTRALIA IN 33RD MINUTE, BAD PUSH FORCES ERROR FROM STOPPER. INDIA TAKE THE BREATHER LEADING 2-0. GOOD SHOW BOYS KEEP IT UP, DONT RELAX IN SECOND HALF THE AUSSIES COULD BOUNCE BACK.

IND - AUS -- THE II HALF CONTINUES.
INDIA HAVE THEIR TAILS UP. THE AUSSIES ARE A DISORIENTED BUNCH. LIKE I SAID EARLIER DONT WRITE THEM OFF. INDIA IS HAVING A GREAT COUNTER ATTACKING GAME IN PROGRESS. COLIN BEING MARKED TIGHTLY. INDIA LAUNCH FIRST ATTACK ON GOAL IN 4OTH MINUTE GOOD SAVE BY GK. AUS COUNTER AND EARN 3RD PC. THIS IS THEIR FIRST ENTRY INTO INDIAN TERRITORY IN THE SECOND HALF AND THEY PULL ONE BACK THROUGH AN INDIRECT (DES). THE GAME IS OPEN AGAIN. INDIA SHOULD HAVE BEEN 3-0 BUT FOR THAT BRILLIANT SAVE EARLIER. NEW ZIP SEEN IN THE AUSSIE FLANKS, THEY ARE APPLYING FULL PRESS AND EARN 4TH PC IN THE 48TH MINUTE, FOLLOWED BY 5TH PC AS BALL TAKES THE DEFENDERS FOOT. THIS TIME A STROKE IS AWARDED AND SCORES ARE LEVEL AFTER HENNESEY SCORES WITH 50 MINUTES OF THE GAME GONE.

II ND HALF CONTINUES
THE AUSTRALIANS ARE A TRANSFORMED TEAM, THEY HAVE SENSED THE KILL AFTER TRAILING BY 2 GOALS AND EQUALISING IN THE FIRST FIFTEEN MINUTES OF THE SECOND HALF THEY TAKE THE LEAD IN THE 53RD MINUTE OF THEIR 6TH PC. THIS IS TURNING OUT TO BE AN INDIAN NIGHTMARE( MIDNIGHT IN INDIA). INDIA PLAYING DESPERATE HOCKEY AND THE AUSTRALIANS ARE DEFENDING. INDIA LOOKING FOR EQUALISER LOTS OF APPEALING SEEN FOR PC BUT DISALLOWED BY REFEREE. INDIA CONTINUE TO PRESS LAST 5 MINUTES THEY ARE PRESSING FURTHER BUT REFEREE DOES NOT AWARD PC AS INDIANS CONTINUE TO APPEAL.

WHAT A SHAME WE LOST FROM A WINNING POSITION. ONLY WE INDIANS CAN THROW A GAME IN THIS FASHION. I REMEMBER AN ARTICLE AFTER THE LOSS TO SPAIN WHICH SAID " INDIANS FLATTER TO DECEIVE" WELL IT IS THE SAME STORY AGAIN ONLY DIFFRENCE WAS LAST TIME IT WAS TWO DIFFERENT MATCHES BUT THIS TIME TWO DIFFERENT HALF'S OF THE SAME GAME.

BAD LUCK BOYS YOU ALMOST BEAT A BETTER TEAM.

Why am I not surprised?
What a shame, I knew something is going to go wrong. Who couch the senior and junior team, is it the same couch?? Guess what, like any other game, India is unpredictable and can win a loosing game on the other hand they are more capable of loosing a winning game too.

I am angry, but I still feel it was a tough call and guys did a better job in start but as always (like our seniors) they must learn to control the game.
3 goals in 11 minutes (come on!!!) for the love of game change the couch please :o(

C'MON GUYS...STAND BY YOUR TEAM
We cannot win always. Australia played very well.
Now is the time to stand by your team. They need all the support after this loss. They played their hearts out. This is hockey!

And Arun UK, you be sure both the "couches" are not the same. I can "voach" for that!

Indian Politics
Well I don’t know how much patriotic Indian Hockey Control Board feels but I must say we need a better (more likely a foreigner) coach and that too soon. Red Tape culture in Indian sports is not going to do any good for no one except few close friends of politicians and bureaucrats. India being one of the best cricket teams in the world opts for foreign coach despite we had a full brigade of talented stars in over backyard. Why the same approach is not applicable for Hockey or other sports? Personally I will feel more comfortable and patriotic if we win some championships with a foreigner coach by our side.

And COOL we have supported our team for too long now and it’s not doing any wonders, it’s time to realise there is something seriously wrong with the whole structure. It should be changed ASAP before Hockey ends up in history books.

Nice post Cool.
Read somewhere that Aussies 1st goal was a result of a PC awarded because of an Indian player complaining about a long corner that was given to Australia!!
That is pathetic. When will the players learn to accept the umpire's decision & get on with the game.
You are right when you say 'we cannot win alway'....But with India 'some' wins over the Aussies would be very welcome! We don't beat them too often.
