The Burras' Junior World Cup campaign kicked off with a bang Wednesday with a resounding 12-0 win over Chile.
The Aussies dominated the match from the outset with two goals in the first five minutes. From there, the young Australian under 21 team created multiple opportunities, with 55 circle penetrations to 12, and 31 scoring shots to two.
Forward Desmond Abbott was best afield, while Turner, Hennessy and Cleghorn also played well. The Burras had seven goal scorers, with Hennessy finding the back of the net four times, while Turner and Cleghorn scored two apiece.
Junior coach Mark Hager was happy with the team's opening game.
"It was a good first up performance," he said.
"The forward line connected well in the first half and created numerous scoring opportunities while our defence was consistently sound in both halves."
Australia's second round opponent is Belgium who lost 3-1 to Pakistan on Wednesday.
The Australian teams’ Junior World Cup campaigns have two major sponsors, the Australian Government and the Australian Commonwealth Games Association.
