THEY may not have had an ideal preparation but Argentina proved they can be a force to be reckoned with in the Junior World Cup.
The Argentinians, unlike many formidable sides, do not have the luxury of playing quality matches because of geographical factor.
Argentina coach Pablo Lombi said: “It’s a bit difficult for us as we do not have the chance to play quality matches.
“My players’ only exposure is the Pan-American championship.
“This too does not help much as the opponents are weak.”
Lombi said the best way to gain experience is by playing matches against senior club sides.
“Our players improve after playing many matches against these club sides,” he said.
Lombi said the team were assembled four years ago.
“But we only started intense preparation a year ago after leaving out the less talented players,” he said.
“So here we are ... battling to have another good outing after Hobart,” said Lombi, who played in the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
Among the stalwarts in this current team are Pedro Ibarra, Facundo Callioni and Tomas Argento.
They are also regulars in the senior team.
