ROTTERDAM, June 30 -- Pre-tournament favorites, Australia were the first team to qualify for the second round of the 8th Junior Hockey World Cup tournament, when they white-washed Belgium 7-1 here Thursday.
The Aussies made a lighting start against Belgium and hammered in two goals through Colin Hennessey and Mark Knowles within the first five minutes before the Belgians answered back through Jerome Truyens in the 29th minute.
Australia picked up even more steam after that and hammered in five more goals to take the full three points.
In pool A, England humiliated Mexico 12-0, making it the worst defeat for the Latin Americans. Mexico lost 0-11 to South Korea yesterday.
In another match, Pakistan beat Chile 2-1 to secure their place in round two..
Pakistan, however, only managed to break Chile's defence in the 32nd minute through Yasir Islam's field attempt, while teammate Muhammad Imran converted a penalty corner in the 34th minute to give them 2-0 lead in the first half.
Chile's solitary strike was thorugh Thomas Kannegiesser in the 49th minute.
