Reading's Simon Mantell and Old Loughtonians' Darren Cheesman both scored hat-tricks as England bounced back from yesterday's opening defeat in the Junior World Cup to thrash Mexico 12-0 in Rotterdam.

Cheesman (two), Mantell (two), Richard Lane, Ashley Jackson and Warren D'Souza all scored in the first half as England shrugged off the loss to top seeds Spain.

After the break further goals from Cheesman, D'Souza, Jackson, Andy Watts and Mantell completed the rout.

England play their final first-round match against South Korea on Saturday but are virtually guaranteed a place in the second phase already.

This guy has been electric all year in the league!
Imagine him and Middleton upfront with Cheeseman as a classic right winger!

Briliant!

Beating Mexico ??? The Under 16's would have !

Pity they can't beat any of the serious teams - Korea 3-5. Holland 1-5.
Just hope that they can beat Egypt !!

Seriously, this squad was never going to achieve very much - selection has been flawed - last minute additions to the squad, injured players being taken in the squad !!

Darren Cheesman best young player i've ever seen. Contract in Holland at 19 - amazing. Shame Old Loughts have to lose such an amazing talent.

Your right - and playing a gk from div 2 doesn't help - and keeping a prem keeper on the bench - the othe4r teams must be having a laugh at that one. The squad has some good players - but its all gone wrong. Who do we bblame??? N Agree that Mantell is class.

When Cheesman wins anything whether it is with the U21's or his School we can then start saying he's half decent. Not before.

As a friend of Darren and having seen him grow up I can tell you that this guy will be a star. The reason he is going to Holland is to become a better player, Old Lought's did try and keep him but his own ambition to get better and become not just the best player in England but the best player in the World in his position was his motivation.

Bales - Hockey is a team sport, you can be the best player in the world and still not win anything if you have a rubbish team around you. He never played hockey at school, he doesn't come from an area where Hockey is played at school!

Why not support players who have exceptional ability and want to succed rather than knock everyone. Who cares if the GK is from div 2, if he is playing better at the moment then he should be playing. Why not get behind the U21 team, this is the team that is likely to be the National team in the next few years.

Check the results and commentary mate - hear that the gk is way out of his depth and not performing.
As for Darren - he's a star wherever he plays and will be missed at the club.

It's sad that we now are struggling with the minnows in World hockey whereas less than 5 years ago we were competing with the elite. What has happened? Our Senior ladies can't qualify for the Olympics, our senior men struggled to finish 9th and now our Junior men are going to struggle to finish in the top 10. I agree that as hockey supporters we have to get behind our team and encourage our players. This is difficult when there doesn't seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel. It's all very well suggesting that some of the U21's should be in the senior side but if they can only beat Mexico in the junior tournaments what hope have they got in the seniors?

Good luck boys
Makes a pleasant change that its not me rattling some peoples cages, think i'll keep quiet on this one&from now onwards.

Good luck to the boys though, they do have some exceptional players out there, will they ipmorove on us reachin the semis 4years ago?? we'll see.....

Cheesy, class! Enough said. Hav chatted to him on numerous occasions about 'final product!'. Good luck fellas, especially the loughts boys&unlucky Rossy, don't worry, many a player has missedout on a junior world cup who is now playing in the full squad.

All you guys that are slating the Gk from div2 are all being a bit harsh! who knows what will have happened if the other gk was in the net v netherlands, we never will, so get over it. It had to go through a team of 10 to reach the GK and from what I have heard he made a good few saves in the game and we missed a few sitters. The dutch were just too good for us on the day and we shouldnt be ridiculing the guys, we should be getting behind them.

Obviously he is good enough to be at the junior world cup, otherwise he wouldnt have been selected. He has earned his place through merit. It sounds as though some of you are jealous (les) of the fact he is there and you are stuck in england gaining no experience!!!

Hear, hear. People assume that just because you are in a lower division you must be inferior to someone in a higher one. Not neccesarily so. Some people can't travel to higher league clubs for lots of reasons.

Give the guy a break. Unless you are there and watching the event AND you are a GK coach then I question your ability to pass comment.

There are a few young players not playing for U21s because they value a decent degree at uni, shame theres no money, not exactly a career .Lets face it we just dont have the players.Come on coaches try some others for the European Cup they cant do any worse.
