Scotland U18 Men's squad travel to Manchester this weekend for the final preparations before their participation in the 'A' Division of the European Youth Championships in Gniezno, Poland.
Team Manager, Alan Shirley said "we saw some considerable improvement in the team's performance level during their recent training camp in Paris where they played three matches against France. We feel our players are now realising the significant challenges they will face in the European Youth Championships."
"While the team can be positive about their successful performance in France two weeks ago, which saw them win the test series, it is crucial that the team maintain their standards and show a higher intensity in performance against Wales."
This is the first major tournament for the majority of the squad and it will prove to be a real test. Unfortunately, Michael Christie (Kelburne) is still unavailable this weekend as he remains in the Senior Men's programme until the European Youth Championships.
The matches will both take place at Belle Vue, Pitch One, and the first match is scheduled for Saturday at 2pm.

Graham
Graham was actually born in Ireland! He lived in Dundee from 1990 till 1998 (hence eligible by dint of residence). We moved down to Hull in 1998. While I can understand the confusion, you may be interested to know that his twin brother David played for England U-16 last year and his elder brother sam played for scotland U-16 in Hamburg 4 years ago! As I am Irish and will probably be playing for the Irish Supervets against both Scotland and England, you will see that we are a pretty dysfunctional family!

The guys have a tough group, in fact, both groups are tough, but they didn't expect anything different from the A div. They will have to play by far the best hockey they have ever played, but who knows what they can achieve. As the team of 2 years ago showed, a victory at the right time can make all the difference so let's just hope for their sake, Scotland's reputation's sake and for the sake of the team in 2 years time that they get that result and remain in the A div.

Victory at right time
Bottom line in Barcelona was that 2 wins in the play offs was the only guarantee of maintaining "A" division status - the win against Spain in the first group stages was totally irrelevant.
My hopes are that we can maintain our "A" div status.
I fear that this group of players experiencing European Tournament hockey for the first time (not MC) may struggle to deliver the 2 wins they will need.
What do you think?

I agree with you in that in barcelona, the effect of the spain result did not change the pool they went into for the cross over, but it gave the squad massive confidence. Confidence will be a huge factor in whether they stay up or not. There is no doubt that they will have to win both of their crossovers but i think it's possible, but they will need a bit of luck.
