Defending champions Australia ran amok in their opening match against Chile, hammering the latter 12-0 in the Eighth Junior World Cup Hockey tournament which began Wednesday at the Rotterdam Hockey Club.
Stamping their mark over the small sized Chile players, the Australians kept pushing for goals from the opening whistle and slotted in seven in the first half before adding five more in the second half.
Colin Hennessey became the first player in the tournament to score a hattrick when he sounded the board four times for Australia in the second, 11th, 38th and 45th minutes.
In another match, on song South Korea drummed Mexico 11-0 despite a slow start in the first half.
The Koreans sounded the Mexicans board after just two minutes through Jang Jong Hyun and added two more through Lee Jong Soo and Hong Sung Kweon in the 20th and 35th minutes respectively off field goal attempts.
The second half saw the Koreans attacking the Mexican goal in waves and they were rewarded with eight more goals.
Meanwhile, Pakistan overcame a one-goal deficit and first match jitters to edge Belgium 3-1.
Belgium took the lead when Mike Dewever beat three defenders and then Pakistan goalkeeper Ahmed Nasir after three minutes of action.
Pakistan, who struggled to find their form, finally got their equalizer in the 28th minute through Muhammad Imran off a penalty corner.
Imran then put Pakistan in the driver's seat when he was on target once again in the 64th minute while Muhammad Arif struck two minutes later to seal the game for Pakistan.

comp
This comp is a joke. You have teams like Chile losing 12-0 and potential sem-finalists like New Zealand, not able to qualify as they would have had to beat the current champions Australia to qualify in the 1 Oceania spot.....joke....
