The Kenya women's national hockey team has intensified training for the Africa Cup of Nations set for October in South Africa.
Making a return to the premier event, Kenya face tough opposition from Nigeria and Ghana.
At the same time, they will be competing for a place in the World Cup set for Madrid in September next year and a possible place in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne also next year.
Coach Omondi, who is looking at the long term sustainability of the team, said he was confident the players are capable of meeting both targets.
If the team qualifies for the World Cup next year, it means they would have to prepare for an extended competitive programme as the All Africa Games fall in 2007 in Algeria.
Despite the fact that they lost to Nigeria at the All Africa Games, the team went ahead to beat the West Africans at the Afro-Asian Games where they finished fifth ahead of Nigeria and Ghana.
Kenya last played Ghana during the All Africa Games in Abuja in 2003 when they beat the West Africans to win the bronze medal.
Things are different in the men's camp where Avtar Singh has a squad of over 40 players.
Meanwhile, the second leg of the Kenya Hockey Union league kicks off on July 2 running upto September 4.
