The Netherlands and Spain will host the prestigious 2006 Champions Trophy tournaments after a decision by FIH in Lausanne today.
Netherlands has been awarded the women’s Rabobank Hockey Champions Trophy to be held in Amstelveen from 8-16 July, while Terrassa, Spain, will host the men’s Sahara Hockey Champions Trophy from 22-30 July.
Both the Netherlands (women) and Spain (men) are the current Champions Trophy title holders, winning their respective events in Rosario, Argentina, and Lahore, Pakistan, in late 2004.
The 2006 Champions Trophy tournaments will be held prior to the men’s and women’s World Cups in September and October next year to give the world’s best teams a valuable opportunity to test their skills against their closest rivals prior to the year’s biggest events in Madrid (women) and Monchengladbach (men).
In addition to the Champions Trophy allocations, Italy has been awarded the women’s Samsung Hockey World Cup Qualifier, which will be held in Rome from 26 April to 7 May, 2006.
It has also been decided by the Global Hockey Partners that Samsung will be the naming rights sponsor of the 2006 Women’s World Cup in Madrid, Spain, next year. The tournament will be known as the Samsung Hockey World Cup.
A full list of FIH events can be found on the WorldHockey website, www.worldhockey.org.

Tournaments
Every country has the right to bid for any of these tournaments. I take your point about Italy but the same could have been said about Egypt for the Mens Champions Challenge Tournament. By doing such things you are robbing ranked teams from getting more ranking points. Particularly since they have earned the right to be at the tournament. Harsh I think. In reality though awarding any of your suggested teams the Champions Trophy would be poor as well when you look at world rankings. I do agree that the FiH need to sort this out otherwise some teams will miss out on great opportunities to gain world ranking points when they are ranked in a position earned from a previous tournament.

Jr World Cup Telecast
Ten Sports have been assigned the telecast rights for the JWC at Rotterdam.
However only the semi finals and final will be telecast, I understand.

Who?
Italy as the host of the Women's World Cup Qualifier?
What's the big deal? They hosted the Champions Challenge before.
We need varieties of hosts for hockey. Not so good to have only a 'pool of hosts' for World-Level hockey tournament. I guess, since no one else bidding for the tournament, that's why we have Holland hosting... (again)

Re Yen
Other countries just didn`t bid for hosting the tournament! Remember that in the last couple of years both Belgium and England were unable to host the CT, after getting the tournament assigned to them, cos of lack of funding!!!!
So if nobody else bids for hosting those tournaments itsn`t very strange they`re always assinged to the Netherlands.
