Canada had a strong performance in this first match of a four game test series against Australia in front of a home crowd at Wright Field at the University of British Columbia. Canada?s young squad played with good intensity and high workrate throughout the match with several strong penetrations into the circle in the first half. Only Australia was able to convert one of their penalty corner opportunities to take a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute of the first half.
There was no scoring in the second half but Canada came out strong doubling their number of penalty corner opportunities. Although Australia was able to pressure the Canadians late in the game, goalie Sarah Forbes pulled off some outstanding saves to repel the continuous play (10 saves total in the game).
Several players earned their first international caps in this game: Katie Rushton, Megan Anderson, Tiffany Michaluk, and Clare Linton.
