The University of Nairobi men's hockey team will meet Kenya Police in the final of the Vaisakhi tournament while Blue Eaglets play Telkom in the women's category.

The students beat Nairobi Simba Union 4-1 in the semi-final at the Nairobi Simba. They had earlier upset Armed Forces in the quarter-final.


Kenya Police saw off Park Road 5-3 in the other semi final. John Khamala scored a hat-trick in the 14th, 17th and 26th minutes. Moses Cheplaiti scored first in the 10th minute and Fredrick Masibo added the fourth in the 54th minute.

Telkom overcame Mombasa Sports Club 5-2 at the Nairobi Simba Union ground.

Blue Eaglets defeated Sliders 2-1 in the other semi-final at the Barclays Bank Sports Club. Hannah Mwaura struck twice in the 38th and 68th minutes for Blue Eaglets.

In the men's quarter finals, Armed Forces and Wazalendo hockey clubs were knocked out.

Both teams were beaten by identical margins of 3-2 on Sunday after bad weather stopped play on Saturday. Armed Forces were held to a 2-2 draw by the University of Nairobi at the Mathare Police Depot on Saturday while Nairobi Simba Union also held Wazalendo to a 2-2 draw at the Nairobi Simba Union.

Jamlick Simiyu scored for the students in the seventh minute and 42nd minutes before Zack Aura replied twice for Armed Forces

When play resumed on Sunday, Simiyu completed his hat trick in the 75th minute to send the soldiers packing in one of the biggest upsets.
