Normal service was resumed for England's men as they beat Canada 5-0 to level the four-match series after two games.

Having lost for the first time in the 27-year history between the teams on Saturday the hosts bounced back in style with two goals apiece from James Tindall and Matt Daly.

Old Georgians' Tindall struck after only nine minutes and Daly, of Surbiton, soon doubled the advantage.

Seven minutes into the second half captain Brett Garrard converted a penalty stroke before Tindall (58) and then Daly, with a penalty corner in the final minute, rounded off the scoring.

The two sides meet again at Sonning Lane, Reading, on Tuesday with the fourth match of the series - on Thursday - also being switched to the Berkshire club from Bisham Abbey.

I make that 3 goals in two games against the Canadians. You knockers who thought 2nd div nat league players weren't up to it should now bow out gracefully and we should pick the whole England team from our division. JOKE. JOKE.

Reading game tonight
3-2 to England - pc goal won in it the 70th minute. Canada did not deserve to lose. OK, so Canada played defensively and sat back - but England rarely threatened. Difference was, when they broke, and did threaten, they looked like scoring, whereas Canada looked less likely.

Normal service, eh?
If 5-0 is "normal service" between England and Canada, which expression do you have for 3-2, with the winning goal in the 70th minute?..

History
May be it was the first time in 27 years that ENGLAND lost to Canada (in the first game of this tour), but Canada beat GREAT BRITAIN 4-1 on July 2, 2003, in Vancouver.

The results of the subsequent games were:
- Jul 5: CAN 1 - GBR 2
- Jul 9: CAN 1 - GBR 3

Does the EHA have a site where they have the full match report, with who played and didn't play???

The FHC site is just a report from Mr Broom.. no mention of the line-ups and stuff.

Good job boys, just goes to show a country with about 200 hockey players can achieve a lot against a nation full of players and a deep league system. Well done Canada!!!!

Third Game
Just found the 3rd game on BBC Sports on Line. England scored the winner in the 70th minute...a PC from Daly. Canada had been down 0-2 early in the 2nd half. Tindle had scored both for the Pommes. Perriera in the 44th minute and Fernandes in the 58th had tied it up. Too bad the Manager can't get the game reports, with players up quicker.

To Canada: Come on "200 players". why does one have to exaggerate? The true number is close to 2000, if you include Juniors. That kind of comment does not help our game.

INDY
Don't be silly your request knowing which site to vist for a detailed report on the England match results takes up somebody's time and as long as the idiots purporting to run our game know, they consider it ligitimte to keep all the paying hockey public away from such trivial matters.
This is another fine example of 1988 self selected EH club communication skills.

This request from INDY is so simple to achieve and give the hockey paying public a service But we all know the morons in control will take a minimum 24 months to set it up.

Can someone please let everyone know what functions the 1988 self appointed club members have in the EH.

Thought the game was OK. A few unforced errors but I thought England controlled the game well from the back and when they went forward with Middleton, Tindell, Clarke and Daly they looked strong. It appeared to be a lack of concertration that allowed Canada to score. It must be said though that their CH looked a quality player. In Tindall we seem to have top goal scorer and with the pace and skill of Clarke, Middleton and Daly I hope we can look forward to a bright future.

Can v GB results
Just to try and clarify a few things Yan and to those who are commenting on Eng not having lost for 27yrs or whatever.

Canada Beat Great Britain in the three nation Tournament in Vancouver on two out of the three accosions that the teams met. I'm sure the scores were 4-1 to Canada, 2-1 to GB, and 3-1 to Canada. I should know as I was on the coaching staff for Canada or is my memory that bad.

And GB is your Olympic team!!!! That would be of a greater concern I would think to the statistitions out there who are throwing stats around.

Good Luck Canada in the Final match.

not certain the game was really ok - dull first half and second half was not much better. With all respect to Canada England should be able to turn in a better performance. Ramsden turned into the Ray Wilkins of hockey and was unable to pass a ball forward - until he was forced into playing as the deepest defender then I think he probably thought about Lewis as an option! Ramsden must have been called up due to his short corner ability, but then Daly took them. And why was middleton playing midfield?? The good points were Clarke with some good moments and Jones who looked a class above.

England V Canada
I was there, and the whole match was 3rd rate at best. Jason Lee will have a very short life as coach of the England team if he can't get his players to do the obvious.

Well done to the Reading club for all the hard work put in by them, and crown it of, I wasn't asked for a penny to watch.

I've seen better nat 2nd division players and JL should be looking at these.

Final game ended 0-0 String of good saves from Mahood kept Canada in it. They played a very deep defence and battled it out apparently.

Ali Wilson told me he was England's best player on the day.

why is middleton not allowed to play in the junior world cup (under21) he still qualifies. surely you would put your best team out for a world cup. i am told he cannot be asked to play in two tournaments 6 weeks apart.
what about the reading boys who had to play the super cup 3 games and then the european championship within 3 weeks and simon towns who then went off to shah azlam in malaysia.
surely a very fit strapping lad of 20 can play 2 tournaments in 6 weeks. am i missing something

Crap
The game was crap from start to finish and all the english players looked third rate at best. The coach of this non coherent bunch of self opiononated so called best in england hockey players should start selecting kids with a bit of skill and individual flare.
THEY WERE TRULY THAT BAD and had they been playing one of the top international teams would have got gigantic thumping.

Why slate ramsden so much? He was playing his 1st full international. He deserves his chance and a huge part of his role will have been keeping the ball and putting in a solid, error free performance, soomething he did well. He has never been a game breaker with mantell type passing and the international stage isn't the place to try and experiment. He was put in the squad as defensive cover due to injuries and players not being available. He was not put in as a corner flicker. His record has been good this season in the league and especially the super cup but at this international meeting, that was not his role.

Reading + Cannock
Just select the best players from these 2 sqauds!
They are the only ones who've won anything in the last 10 yrs!

GK - Mason and Fairs
Defence - Brown/Gerrard/Todd/Mantell/Bertram
Midfield - Taylor/West/Pearn/Hawes/Gerrard/Kirkham
Forwards - Clarke/Jones/Watts/Mantell/Daly

That is the basis of a great squad - good international experience with domestic winners and some players from other clubs who have a great future.

None of this 'handing out caps like toilet paper'!

People playing for England have to earn their colours in the leagues.
And when they get there they have to be told that their place is harder to keep once they are there!

Get rid of the rubbish (something Barry Dancer was great at!) and make people proud to play for England!
If you wanna mess about - then lose your money!

It is Garrard...and he plays for Klein Switzerland in Holland.
Bertram doesn't play for Reading....he plays for himself
Hawes plays for Amsterdam
Kirkham plays Loughborough poly
Watts is even good for the u21s
Daly plays for Surbiton
Pearn plays for Polo Club Barcelona

There you have it!

I see you say to pick players from Reading and cannock as they are the only ones to win anything in the last 10 years. But then you pick 8 from Reading and only 4 from Cannock, shouldn't we just pick the Cannock team from this season seen as they are the only ones to win anything in the last year?

now I know this site brings idiots to the party. The two of them wouldn't last 10 minutes. John Shaw dosn't even play half a game at a time for Southgate in div 2, as he hasn't got it anymore "playwise" Hoever he is a great coach & motivator of people. Make him the England coach because he is more in touch than Jason Lee.
