The United States beat New Zealand 1-0 in a women's field hockey exhibition game Saturday, preventing a sweep by the home team in the five-match series.

New Zealand won the first match 5-0, the second 1-0, the third 2-0 and the fourth 3-1.

Midfielder Carrie Lingo scored in the 13th minute to give the United States an early lead, and goalkeeper Amy Tran made 15 saves to keep the Americans in front the rest of the way.

Tran and Lingo played in college at North Carolina.
