Paradise Hockey club Trinity Ladies team has now won their second successive match in the Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Federation League Championship tournament, stretching their unbeaten run from last year to 16 games.

They easily over came Notre Dame 4-1 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium.

Last year the Trinity team won their division for the club to once again play in the top echelon of ladies hockey.

Against Notre Dame, Paradise opened the scoring early in the game through Joyanne Prescott but Notre Dame got the equaliser soon after and because Paradise strikers failed to convert at least one of the many scoring opportunities created, the score remained levelled at the completion of the first half. Paradise exploded in the second half and though they continued to miss easy scoring opportunities in a game in which they were in total control, they were still able to find the back of the nets on three more occasions courtesy a double from Nicollette Alleyne and one from Katrina Scott for a 4-1 victory. Four of the club's five teams will be in action in Trinidad over the weekend.

I find it strange that Paradise wins most of their games in Tobago with Tobago umpires and also on a very suspect field that somehow always caters for their style of play , hmmmmmmm i wonder if the hockey board has ever set foot across there to see what the ground islike during a championship game. I guess not as usual they take no interest in the clubs .
Well done TTHB

Dear Concerned,

Yes the Board have representatives who view the pitch and the rules are clear. If in the umpires opinion the surface is unfit they can opt to cancel the game. to say that the TTHB takes no intereset in clubs.... the Clubs put them there so if you have more interest then move them, stop griping and do it better!

Dear Concerned,
Dont u tink that the grass would more favour Paradise due to the fact that they continuously train on that type of surface. Hav you ever thought about Paradise when they visit Trinidad and have to play on the Astro Turf. Its a totally different ball game, The Turf is smoother and faster than the grass.
Yeah older player i do agree wid u, its totally up to the umpire.Take this for an example when CARIB Magnolias visited Paradise Senior Umpire LUCY LEE could have over ruled the playing of the three games scheduled for that day or at least the Championship game but she didn't and after her team lost they began to quarrel about the condition of the pitch bare in mind that no man has control over the way in which mother nature presents herself.

Get your facts straight!!
Valid Supporter you say you were at this game but obviously you must have arrived late because CARIB Magnolias began complaining from the time they arrived (you keep twisting the story to suit yourself and your team and trying to make Mags out to be "sour grapes"!) - In fact I don't believe there was much said about the playing conditions after the game........... AND in defence of the "Senior Umpire" - she actually did advise Mags that the conditions were unacceptable and that the game should not be played but Mags decided to play ONLY because we did not/could not incur the expense of travelling to Tobago to replay the game. You keep talking about mother nature..... the condition of that field was as though rain poured and poured the entire day and night before that game............ Some of us were lucky enough to be in Tobago the day and night before, there was beautiful Tobago sunshine during the day and we were up til wee hours of the morning and certainly did not have to run from any rain........ but in defence of mother nature we were not on the Dwight Yorke Practice ground!!!!!

Hockey going to the Pigs!!
FACTS:

(1) THE FIELD WAS A PIG STY!!!

(2) THE GAME WAS PLAYED UNDER PROTEST!!! (For you ignorama out there this is indicated BEFORE the game has started).

(3) THE UMPIRING WAS HORRIBLE (and became even worse when the Junior Umpire got offended when he tried to overrule the SENIOR umpire and lost the fight and he proceeded to take up a so called "tit for tat" attitude)

(4) MAGS LOST (and believe it or not still in the top TWO in the standings!!)

(5) MAGS NOT SOUR GRAPES (shudda visit the Mags accommodation after the game until they left Tobago - the PIG STY became a joke and a good time was had by all!!!)

(6) MAGS ARE THE CHAMPIONS NO MATTER WHAT ................. HAH!!!!!!!

If yuh want to play in de big league .....
Well well well .... it seems as though the people in Tobago getting ah bit DEFENSIVE here !!! And, well, had those 6 Junior National Players from Tobago gotten HALF THAT defensive in the Under-21 Tournament they went to ... well, we would have probably come home with the GOLD !!!

That said ... a few points ...

(1) I keep hearing that in the Mags fixture, that the "Senior Umpire" Lucy Lee could have called off the game at any time she wanted to ..... Hahahahahahhaah !!!!! JOKE, JOKE, JOKE ..... YEAH RIGHT ..... the only thing that teams from Trinidad are allowed to write on the match sheet is their signature !!!! No Umpire, Manager, Coach or player from Trinidad is EVER allowed to make a comment on the match sheet in Tobago ... far less having the power to CALL OFF a game !!!! So TRY ANOTHER ONE !!!

(2) The blow that Lucy was 'wrong' in over ruling went like this ..... the ball went across the sideline that LUCY .... get that right ... LUCY and NOT the Paradise Umpire (who was incidentally STUCK IN THE MUD over on the other side of the field, cause he ain't move for the game) presided over. Correct me if I am wrong, but each of the umpires call line hits on their sideline. The Paradise Umpire could not have been in a better position to call the line hit. LUCY'S DECISION WAS IN FACT ... THE CORRECT DECISION !!!!

(3) Even if Lucy's decision was not a correct decision, the "Tit for Tat" remark offered by the Paradise Umpire was definately NOT CALLED FOR. I mean people, we are adults, trying to get into the BIG LEAGUES with the BIG Hockey Nations of the World. Yes in order to accommodate Paradise, we go back 40 years or so and continue to play Championship hockey on their surface (I hesitate to call it a grass surface) ... but could we not at least have an even playing field where the "Tit for Tat" mentality does not come into play ??? Is that how Paradise would like to know that they are beating teams???

(4) One of the comments offered by Paradise was that BOTH teams played on the same surface ... but of course you realise that this is of no consequence when one team trains there day in and day out !!! :-)

(5) Every time the Paradise players WHACKED the ball waist height up and down the field, the calls from the sideline were ... "GOOD PLAY .. DAZ HOW YUH PLAY IT" ... REALLY ???? Is that how hockey is played in the real world ??? The good news for our ALL our players from Trinidad is that we continue to go across to Tobago and lose. Do we really want to teach our youngsters that style of hockey that was and will only ever be played on the TERRIBLE surfaces in Tobago ??? Even though we continue to lose over there, I see that as a positive knowing that our youngsters here will not allow themselves to be lowered to that standard ... again I hesitate to say of HOCKEY ... what we played over there was not HOCKEY .... you could better call it .... HIT and HOPE !!!!

(6) Yes Tobago needs a Turf ... but again, are our friends across in the sister isle waiting on Trinidad to get their surface ??? Hahahahhahah ..... STAND ON YOUR OWN TWO FEET ... Start the ball rolling yourself !!! My opinion is that if you want to play hockey in the BIG LEAGUES, then either you incur the costs to come to Trinidad to play on the surfaces that BIG HOCKEY is played on, or you get a suitable surface there to allow teams to come across. If not, have your own league and see who is willing to participate. I can bet what the results will be. You can't rely on others to continue to 'feel sorry' that you have to spend soooooooooooooo much money to travel to Trinidad ... because OBVIOUSLY you feel that teams from Trinidad travel to Tobago for FREE ... and that those 'MORE THAN EXPENSIVE' accommodations are given to us for mere smiles !!!!

In the interest of moving hockey FORWARD, and continuing to ensure that our fellow players from the sister isle progress, I suggest that YOU, the Hockey officials in Tobago who continue to be defensive when teams complain about the poor playing conditions there, step back and take a real look at what is going on here. Ask any of your SIX National Players if ANY of the hockey they played away was like what they are continually asked to play based on the poor playing conditions in Tobago. Do you want to continue to breed players who's greatest asset right now, appears to be throwing their body weight around, and calling the umpires "THIEF" !!! There is some real potential in Tobago, but if you continue to think of yourselves as the UNDER PRIVILEGED group who are FORCED to travel to Trinidad because nobody cares enough to GIVE you a turf .... well, that is EXACTLY what you will remain.

Hats off to the teams from Trinidad who continue to travel to Tobago to be subjected to the HORRORS of the surfaces there, and are subjected to the 'abuse' of the officials. Off the field, the Paradise players are GREAT .. you could not want BETTER PEOPLE !!! But still ... in the end, that does NOTHING for moving hockey in Trinidad OR Tobago forward !!!

LONG LIVE HOCKEY !!!!

TIME TO MOVE ON
I cannot wait for the BIG 4 combat between Pinehill Pradise and Carib Magnolias on the 'TURF'. I hope it will end the misconseptions on both sides and allow both teams to accept what the end of that game will bring. I hope all invovled could put aside all differences and come out and play intense and great hockey.

CAN'T WAIT, CAN YOU? :) :) :)

All seem to think that Paradise is on the defensive or may have some reason to question an impressive season from Paradise!!! Why now?!!

Why not before?.Was it because they were bottom or near bottom of the league?

My personal view...for everything there is a season!!! This season was Paradise's...live with it!!!!

All agree..the grounds were definitely not up to standard, in some cases, deplorable!!! All we could do is try to make things better for us all since matches are played both in Trinidad and Tobago. Guess what..its not Paradise's problem..its all our problem since we are affected both directly and indirectly by the inadequacies.

Awe well..we'll see what happens next season!!! looking forward to be a worthy and versatile (both grass and turf professional) opponent.
