Other Matches
Obviously that was a post advertisig the game at Reading, which I will try to get along to.
Can anyone tell me the venue for the other three matches, and are people welcome to go and watch them - or are they 'training games'?
England Hockey website only has details about the match on 24th.
Cheers

Other Venue
The other venue is Bisham, to which "the public are not invited" due to "Health and Safety restrictions" according to the England Hockey website:... ironic that we have a national sports centre to which fans and coaches are not able to go and watch the national team play. England Hockey are always whittering on about getting TV rights and promoting the game, but how can this ever occur when they play games behind closed doors? Being able to watch one game out of three is just not good enough! Pull your socks up Faulkner and sort out this PR mess.

other venue
All international matches should be played at the clubs anyway.
The recent internationals at cannock/slough/canterbury and beeston have been brilliant!
More of it please!
(p.s. if your complaining about £4 at Reading - give up hockey you tight fisted fools)

What more do you expect from the buffoons controlling our game. England play an international match at Bisham knowing supporters are unable to gain access.
This just sums up EH

England v's Canada Matches
David Faulkner has made it World Class Hockey policy to host more games at clubs and has therefore asked Reading to host a second match on Thursday 26th at 7pm.
Entry will once again be FREE with ample viewing with the alternative to pay £4 for a seat in the stand.
It is now up to you to come along and show that you appreciate the opportunity to watch England play at home!!
Matches at Reading:
Tuesday 24th May 7pm start
Thursday 26th May 7pm start
These are the only two full international (capped matches) that are being played between Canada and England. The other two matches are training games.

Totally agree with both of you- the games last year at Nottingham, Slough and Cannock were a complete success; I couldn't believe the crowds that showed up. I'd happily pay the measly £4 to get into a game, let alone to have a seat... but the overpayed and narrowed minded brains at England Hockey clearly can't see the glaring opportunity to put some money back in their recently depleted coffers...
No wonder why there is such ill feeling with the volunteers than keep the game alive!

Score?
Canada has won their first game vs England ever.....at least in 27yrs,since the first test. Problem is that it won't be registered as an "international" England wanted to use the game as a training match, despite Canada's desire that it be a "test". England used 18 players,so it won't be registered.
All goals coming in a 7 minute span in the first half. Paul Wettlaufer, got the winner for the Canucks.
The next 3 games will be full tests!

Result of 1st test match?
According to the FHC web site, the first test was on Saturday May 21 (yesterday) but no result has been posted yet.
Does anybody in England know the result?
Thank you.

International Games
I visited East Grinstead HC recently and believe with the facilities they have it would make an ideal venue for International hockey matches. I guess you could errect tempory seating arround the gound for well ove 2.000 +++ supporters and they most certainly have the infrastructure to accomodate every aspect of holding very big events.
JUST A SUGGESTION. However would East Grinstead be prepared to pay EH to hold such events and take the lead from Reading by not charging.
GOOD LUCK to Reading for taking the two International matches against Canada.

re: Surrey Club Fool
the matches were at Bisham Abbey.
THIS IS A TRAINING FACILITY with no prvision for spectators (The Lottery hasnt paid for any facilities in ANY sport)
Reading HC is just down the road and Mr Faulkener has decided that the public should have the opportunity to watch such games (Well done him!)
So i ask you Surrey fool - would you pay for the transport required to take the teams from Bisham - around the busiest section of the M25 - past a busy Gatwick and to EG
or
move the match 15 miles down the road to a club who can host such events fairly easily with the minimum of hassle?
And i though it was only those blazers at English Hockey who wanted to make life difficult!

East Grinstead a GOOD SHOUT, but I think you could get more like 4.000 +++ specators with the right temporary seating and they could accommodate the cars.
The temporary seating and additional outside catering facilities would cost English Hockey approx 12k and therefore EH could make a margin charging a miminal entrance fee of £4 adults and £2 kids. (Parking would be free)
EG would also make a great training centre for the English national team, and would also mean our Brighton young stars would have less travelling to attend training sessions.

You idiot, can't you read a map !!. The fact is it is easier get to East Grinstead than Reading and is 5 miles off the M25 and 5 miles from Gatwick Airport. I have traveled extensively to all the England playing & training venues and East Grinstead is the easiest in time & mileage with the right facilities within the Home Counties area.
However with your intelligence and ability to read a map, I bet you are based in the North or Midlands.

thankyou
A HUGE THANKYOU.
To all those who came to Reading Hockey Club lastnight.
To see the ground full to capacity on such short notice is a true testament to the hockey playing public in this country.
Official numbers will never be known but there wasnt one bit of viewing area free - infact the balcony above the changing rooms was being used.
A huge huge thankyou to everyone who attended.
Hopefully see you all again tomorrow night when the weather will be better.
