SEAN Corrie's last-minute goal against Papua New Guinea kept the Fiji men's hockey hopes alive in the second match at the Arafura Games on Monday night.

Fiji coach Kevin Fraser said Corrie flung the ball high into the net, over the kneeling PNG keeper to level the scores in the 61st minute.

"There was plenty of action at both ends of the field throughout the match," said Fraser.

"No team was able to score a goal from the tight defence of the players and they were locked nil-all at halftime," he said.

"It was the same at the start of the second half until PNG broke the deadlock with a well-earned penalty stroke.

"The match looked over but we would not lie down and forced a penalty corner with minutes to spare.

"That's how it finished, and it was the third draw for the PNG team."

Fiji now has had a win and a draw."

Meanwhile, the Fiji women's hockey team went down to the Singapore Police women's team 3-0 in its third match of the competition.

Singapore Police took control of the match from the outset and did not let the Fiji women settle down even though the scores did not really reflect the game.

Singapore went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

After the break, the Fiji women showed some signs of scoring but their attempts were quickly snuffed out by the police women.

The Fiji women's team side has now lost two and won one at the games.

Earlier, the Rebecca Wilson-coached Fiji women's hockey team beat Papua New Guinea 4-0 but lost to Australian Northern Territory 5-3 on Sunday.

Fraser said the men's team was to face it's biggest threat last night against the Northern Territory Under-21 side.

"We're hoping for a win to set us off. So far, we have a win and a draw which should have been a win but I guess a draw was better than losing altogether," he said.

"At the moment all the team sports, hockey, golf and five-a-side soccer are still in the pool stages."
