India is clubbed with Germany, South Africa, and Canada in group B for the World Junior women's hockey championship to be held at Santiago (Chile) from September 14 to 25. Three teams from Asia figure in the 16 team format along with six teams from Europe, four from South America, including the host Chile, two from Africa, and one from Ocenia. Korea is the defending champion from the last edition played at Buenos Aires in 2001. It is placed in Pool C.

The participants are divided into four pools of four teams, and the last in each pool will fight for places between 13 to 16. The rest of the 12 qualifiers are to be divided into two pools of six each. The top two in each group will clash in the semi-finals. The rest will fight for places between 5 and 12.

The following are the pools: A: Netherlands, England, United States, and Zimbabwe; B: Germany, South Africa, India, and Canada; C: Argentina, Korea, Scotland, and Canada; D: Australia, China, Spain, and Chile.
