Pro-Life Kelburne gained promotion from the B Division of the European Cup Winners' Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over the Austrian Akademischer in Vienna.

The Paisley side dominated proceedings but uncharacteristically found difficulty in finding the target. But the five minutes prior to half-time proved crucial. A great run by Johnny Christie and Chris Traynor forced the ball into the Austrian circle and Raymond Wrightson was on hand to sweep the ball home.

Minutes later Akademischer won a penalty corner and their high drag flick was net bound only to be brilliantly plucked out of the air by the stick of Mark Ralph.

The second half was a tense affair as the Scots continued to call the shots, with man of the match Chris Nelson in full flow. With no further scoring Kelburne, with four straight wins, return to the A Division at the first time of asking.

Manager Duncan McInnes said: "Naturally I am delighted we achieved our target of promotion, but today was our poorest performance, we missed far too many chances." Penalty corner expert Mark Ralph was top goalscorer, along with Ireland's David Eakins.

In the women's A Division, En-Croute Western went down 3-0 to host side Rot-Weiss and had to be satisfied with 4th place after spurning myriad chances, including 10 penalty corners.

Three A division places in Europe next year so far; all with part time SCOTTISH coaches and little funding. How will the full time German and the Englishman get on, what with being full time and well funded?

Lets spend alot of time comparing Apples & Pears.

Bearing in mind that alot of the players probably spend alot of time training with institutes and the national team, i suppose that none of this will reflect on the impact they have on individual players and their respective clubs??
