What definition are you attaching to awesome in relation to Mel Clewlow? Yes she can hit a ball hard but isn't awesome in this respect referring to someone who can turn a game with skill, and sheer ability.

Mel has got real quality (more than just hitting the ball hard) but for class and consistency over a long period GBs greatest has to be Jane Sixsmith.

Carina is an outstanding player but i have to agree with Old Timer, Jane Sixsmith has to be the GBs greatest player, it was seeing her play for the GB team that first got me interested in the sport.

You people are insulting Carina by even mentioning English players on the same page as her, English players are nowhere near the level Carina was, Get a grip of yourselves and stop being so arrogant! England is not the centre of the universe!

How is it that the English always mange to involve themselves in a subject that has absolutely nothing to do with them? This is an article about an excellant hockey player, who has achieved the highest accolade on offer to hockey players. In achieving this she has also acquired a law degree. Tina Cullen? Mel Clewlow? And even Jane Sixsmith. To mention these players in the same breath as Carina is an absolute insult. But i expext nothing less from the English!!! They just continue to embarass themselves.

I agree that Carina is one of the all time great hockey players, but we have to have our hero's too.
Carina has achieved world-wide recognition for achievements as made obvious by her being among the hockey hero's but our players have great trouble getting recognised in our own country let alone anywhere else.
People may disagree with my point of view about the english players such as Jane Sixsmith or Mel Clewlow, they are entitled to an opinion, but you must remember that we too have something to say and are entitled to say it.

It is very to read all the comments about Carina. Anyway i dont know her very well as a hockeyplayer, but I do know, when do you know somebody by the way, as a hockeycoach and runningfriend. If she played hockey as the she is coaching she will be absolutely the best player. One of her best things is that she playing and coaching with passion and in a way she can motivate and inspire people, not only by playing, but also with coaching, and it has always been a joy to go into the forest for a running hour with carina. So she is fantastic person who wants to make something from her life and that can be an example for other people

Re: English hockey fan
The point is that these are comments on an article about Carina, not about English players!

Go and find some English article somewhere to brag about your 'heros' as nobody other than fellow English folk gives a toss! about Tina Cullen, and Mel Clelow - you see, she's so unknown that I don't even know how to spell her name without checking your comments which I can't be arsed wasting any more time doing!

Once again, get a grip!

Mel Clewlow
Obviously the person who made the previous comment has only ever watched school girls hockey, if they think that Mel Clewlow is the best hockey player they have ever seen. And the thought of having her behind me, somewhat scares me.

I agree completely that everyone can have their opinion, but you have missed my point.
The article was about a Dutch player. By clicking on that article I was hoping to read about her. Instead I had to read about English players, who in my OPINION, are average.
Post your opinions for sure, but on the relevant page.

I went to the European Champions Cup A Division, in Den Bosch in 2003, I have never seen anything like it. The set up was great and so was the home team especially Mijntje Donners. I don't know anything about Carina Benninga but if she is better than Mijntje Donners then she must be extremly talented.

Jane Sixsmith
I played alongside Jane for a few years, especially when she clinched the vital goals that brought GB home a Bronze medal in Barcelona 1992. She was an inspiration to the whole team- her energy, enthusiasm and work-rate were always outstanding. A great person also I might add. A deserved GB legend!
