Mombasa Sports Club lost their first match in the Kenya Hockey Union women's league when they went down 0-3 to Telkom Kenya at home.
The loss left Mombasa second in the league standings with eight points. League leaders Sliders have 11 points.
Mombasa's goalkeeper Brenda Wangila was forced to make a daring save in the first minute as Telkom started their goal search.
Telkom's Rebecca Ombewa, a former Mombasa captain, was denied in the 10th minute. Mombasa defenders Nancy Ohonjo and Cecilia Wamakonjio were made to work extra hard to thwart the efforts of Telkom forward Jackie Atieno. Their efforts saw Mombasa ride out a 0-0 scoreline at half-time.
The tide turned in the second half, however, as Telkom's Jackie Ogot sounded the boards in the 46th minute after a cross from Atieno.
Ten minutes later, Rose Opiyo scored Telkom's second goal.
Telkom international Florence Olal was shown the yellow card after complaining to the referee, before she scored a great goal in the 63rd minute.
Mombasa then scored what they thought was a genuine goal in the 68th minute, but it was disallowed by referee Hervidael Sohal.
In Nairobi, Kenya Police beat Armed Forces 1-0 in their first leg match at the Simba Union.
International Moses Cheplaite scored Police's winning goal in the 22nd minute as the game ran into a drought of goals to the last whistle.
Though placed fourth in the standings, Police have played four matches have to beat Wazalendo next weekend.
Nakuru Athletics Club had a fruitful weekend at home, where they collected four points. They beat Nairobi Simba Union 3-0 and drew 1-1 with Kisumu Simba.
Nakuru now top the standings with 11 points, two ahead of defending champions Armed Forces. Kisumu Simba are third with seven points from three matches followed by Kenya Police with similar points from four matches.
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology also collected four points. They beat Parklands Sports Club 3-0 at home and drew with 1-1 with Nairobi Gymkhana.

Kenyan Hockey
Does Kenya have an astro turf?
Good to see hockey strong in that neck of the woods.

City Park Stadium
What is happening with the stadium, is the astor being relayed or not. For Kenyan hockey to move forward, they need to play on astro.

Astro turf
i am a kenya hockey player and would like to know when we will have the astro, and if not then we should be told soon coz we are tired of being lied to all the time.
It is quite annoying playing on murram everyday and this means our quality of hockey is going down the drainage and as when teams like Telkom and Armed Forces are meant to go for Club championship in Egypt they need to train on astro.
Please help.
