Japan and South Africa played an exciting 4-4 draw match on the second day of the 4-Nation Invitational Hockey Tournament at the National Hockey Stadium here Tuesday.

Japan were leading 3-1 at the half time but in an amazing turaround, South Africans retaliated make it 4-3. But just five minutes before the final whistle Japanese forward Hiroto Noda scored a beautiful field goal to save his team from embarrassment.

Japan opened their account through a 4th minute goal from Yoshiro Sugai. South African equalled it in the 10th minute when Pierre Geldenhuy converted a penalty corner.

Japan consolidated their lead by scoring two goals in the 23rd and 35th minutes. Kazuki Shiokawa and Tomonori scored the goals respectively.

The South Africans fought bravely in the second half and scored a field goal in the 46th minute through Lungile Tsolekile.

They got two back-to-back penalty stroke and a penalty corner in the 62nd and 67th minutes which they successfully converted through Wayne Madsen and Andrew Cronje. They were close to victory but a 70th minute goal by Japan frustrated them and the match was drawn 4-4.

Hey I know this is TOTALLY unrelevant but I'm just curious.. Has there been a former male international with the surname schalkwyk ????
