Future is dark for HK Hockey... I hope we can work things out
I was one of the 1986-1988 Golden Generation of HK Hockey. There were lots of indian boys fleed to overseas due to 1997. That's why HK Hockey had since been ruled by Shaheen and Football Club. But you have to give them credit. The golden generation had 7 Shaheen Players. All of them were highly respected by Indians. They managed to pass their passion of hockey to today's Shaheen. Which is why Shaheen is still a strong team in HK. For Football Club, we'll have to credit them for their passin because they are the only club import players every season which means they indirectly keep up the standard of hockey in HK.

For all the critics about Shaheen Boys, Guv, Ravi, Billy....etc. I'm sure there are points about them, but please write with courtesy. I don't think the above comments on Shaheen players who's contributed to HK is a good example. If I get such feedbacks after contributing for HK. I'll be very upset especially we are minorities in this territory. Critics for the others who are not Shaheen player, consideration is a must because these are the only people who can give Shaheen and Football Club a real challenge.

I hope all the Indians in HK can unite and create a Super Powerhouse that can at least break the dominance of Shaheen & Football Club. I hope one team "Indian United" can win the next top league and or Holland Cup.

Look...it's not an international league. There are good Indian players in the league playing for different clubs. This business of creating an Indian "powerhouse" is completely backward. Yes, the future of Hong Kong hockey is dark because there are too many people that think along these lines. This segregation only encourages opposing opinions when really what we need is for people to co-operate with each other. There is one word that springs to mind when you hear comments like these made-Fuddy Duddy-and there are far too many of them in Hong Kong playing jolly hockey when we should be striving for a proffesional approach. How can you talk about the team of 86-88 being the golden generation? In the Ali brothers we have probably seen the best players Hong Kong has ever produced...no, we aren't going to qualify for the olympics tomorrow, nor are we going to win medals at the Asians just yet, but HK hockey isn't getting worse-we are just lagging behind while everyone else is moving forward in a new era of the game. We just need to stop being content as some people are.
Oh my god

If you think 80's is so good then what about the international result?i think generation now and the result is way better then hong kong hockey history ever, why?because there is no such things indian team or pakistan team in the league.they are all united which bring the hockey here to next level. No racist should be in our hong kong hockey. The ali brothers is no doubt the best players hong kong had ever had but also the players they playing with also good with result proved.Won the AHF cup twice and asia number 7.But non of the result is about the association, its all the hard work the boys out in themselve.Hope the HKHA realized how difficult is now these days playing against the top asian team.Really full credit to the national boys and other players who arent in the national keep them competing in the league.Be positive

Well said the results over the last five years have been the best ever. It has been the reuslt of the hard working players. The team of hk should always be a mix and comments about an all indian team is no good for hk hockey. The association ahs hired a world class coach and hopefully he can take the team past number 7 asian ranking. Hk hokcey has always been about the players and the association has no idea what it takes to compete at the highest level.Full credit to the national team.

I was also one of the so called Golden Geneartaion of HK Hockey but also had the pleasure of playing with the new generation and team that won the 1st AHF Cup. I can see three differences between the sides.

1. 86 team had players from six clubs, NBC, Shaheen, KCC, Khalsa, Pak Assn & KNS. No one team or nationality dominated the side.

2. 86 team trained harder because there was competition for places, imagine today having 40 players arrive for first national team training!! Training 5 days a week with 100% attendance include extra 10 players in case of injury!

3. 86 team had depth, all 16 players could play at any time

Having played in both teams and in the league I would say that the curent team suffer from lack of competition, both in league games and for their place in the national team. There are 15 players who know they cannot be replaced so why train.

In the 80's the league was more compatative with Shaheen, NBC, Club, KNS, Khalsa, KCC & Recs all in the running for the league. No 10-0 wins every week. In fact Club even beat the China national team in 85!

I think it is now up to the U21 players to challenege for their right to play in the senior side which will in turn make the senior players push harder.

Good Luck to the National Coach!

Job of National Coach (HK ONLY)
6 Does question:

1. Does anyone knows why we employ the coach?
2. Does the coach knows how many people attend the training while he was on leave?
3. Does anyone knows there is a selection committee who can overrule the coach 'choice' for overseas?
4. Does anyone knows why over the past 15 years still the same or at least 85% National Players still in the team?
5. Does anyone knows how come hockey wasn't develop well in HK as compare with cricket, baseball, rugby?
6. Does anyone knows why Football in HK going downward? (it is related with hockey)

6 Does answer:
1. Employing a coach is to please all the club as they collect extra money before the season start.
2. Yes he got the attendance list but so what there is no other choice
3. Yes there is, so our coach only a rubber stamp as he had no idea of others or the committee would say.. we need result and don't take a risk of bring young players.
4. Because the HKHA have no plan at all in developing. So if the coach left, things will back to normal. Coach only brings a bit of hope to someone.
5. Simple...... no planning at all. HKHA only run the league, arrange tournament, some international tournament to please the fans.
6. Because football is profesonally game in HK but run by non-professionals. Hockey in Hong Kong going downwards because poor management.

Some might not agree but it's from what I seen over the years.

I think you already out of the hockey for quite a long time. There is no U21 anymore for over a year, that is why the 'old ' national players dosen't have to train hard and will be selected to travel to Macau. Even now the National Games of China, HKHA using quite number of 'old' national player in the team. This prove that the HKHA did not develop players in any area.
If you bless the national coach, then I need to bless the future of Hong Kong hockey.

Obviously Salim was one of the star of the 80's. He was captain of the 86 Asian Games squad and numerously others international games played in H.K. and overseas. How could any long time supporters forget the fun and exciting display of hockey brought by these Golden Generation. Salim, Nawab, Ali, Bob, Anthony, amarpal, Tony singh, Paul Har and even Hamid Din are all great players of that era. The display of skills, team work and the competiveness between teams were tremendous. Ali's brother were all great players individually but is no where beyond comparision when it come to team play. All the Golden generation great players works with each others and hardly argue on the field while the new generation criticize their own teamates both on and off the field. Remember Hockey is a team sport.

The worlds view of hk hockey
it is obvious why hockey is going downhill in hk. it is because the players are all stricken with jealousy and write comments using other peoples names on an international website (viewed by representitives of other associations) in an attemp to corrupt their future in hk hockey. No body in hong kong plays well together when selected for a national team because nobody likes each other and competition is too personal. maturity levels of 'men' and 'women' in hk have to rise in order for hk to get back on track and become serious about hockey and winning championships. the teams have already been assisted in mature expert coaching and now it is up to the players to respond to this. think about it.
