NATIONAL men's hockey coach Kevin Fraser's build-up to the World Cup qualifiers began Saturtday after a 41-member squad underwent a fitness test at the Rabuka Fitness Centre.

The former national rep was pleased with the performances of some players.

"The fitness test went well. Most of them scored highly. But they have a few more weeks to build on their fitness," Fraser said.

"The squad was also given training programs and players will come together in the next two weeks for another fitness test. They will then participate in the Easter Games tournament where the squad will be trimmed to 30 players."

He will use the Arafura Games in Darwin in May as a build-up to the qualifiers in Suva in October.

The second test would be held on April 5 where he and his selectors will cut the team to 22 and then the last hurdle for the final 18 on May 7. Fraser said they would play the touring New Zealand Masters side early next month and then to Darwin.
