Simon's retirement
Good luck mate in your future plans - I'm sure you'll be a great asset at whatever you do next.
Pop in and see us down the club when you're next in Gloucester. I'll buy you a beer.

Great Keeper
It is a sad day for GB and England.
I would like to thank Simon for all his efforts for both teams and wish him every success for the future.
Again another great British Keeper, wonder who will be the next one

well done
Well done to the guy!
watched him many many times - its more the stuff you dont see (talking to defenders/organisation) that makes him great!
But he can still be relied on to make that crucial save!
Thats a big pair of kickers his succesr has to fill - massive to say the least!
Congratulations again!

i am a free lance hockey writer from Pakistan. I must say that Simon was a very well known character of international hockey.
I often compare Pakistan,s current No 1 goalie, Salman Akbar with Mason because of Slaman,s height: 6ft3in

Great Keeper
Best of luck regarding your future plans.
He was really a world class goal keeper. He has won many matches for england. It would be hard to find his replacement.
Can anybody tell me the offical web site address of uk hockey.

Kick The CrossBar!!!
Being a fan from Malaysia, I will always remember watching a fully padded Goalie kicking the crossbar before a stroke. (Azlan Shah 96)
All the best to you

THANK YOU SIMON FROM YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN
SIMON WENT FROM A BOY TO A MAN AT THE AGE OF 16 WHEN HIS DADDY DIED. WE AS A FAMILY ADMIRE EVERYTHING THAT HE HAS DONE IN HIS LIFE AND IN HIS HOCKEY CAREER.
WE HAVE MET SOME WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND TRAVELLED TO SOME GREAT PLACES THROUGH THIS GREAT GAME OF HOCKEY.
PEOPLE LIKE SIMON HAVE GIVEN UP SO MUCH FOR THIS GREAT GAME OF HOCKEY. I HOPE THAT IT CONTINUES TO BE A GREAT GAME AND THAT IT ISN'T TAKEN OVER BY POLITICS ETC. PLEASE GIVE THESE PLAYERS A CHANCE TO VOICE THEIR OPINONS. DON'T SIT ON THE FENCE, SPEAK OUT.
I WANT THOSE PEOPLE SITTING ON THESE HOCKEY BOARDS TO LISTEN TO THESE PLAYERS. THEY SPEAK FROM THEIR HEARTS. THEY GIVE UP SO MUCH FOR HOCKEY, FOR THEIR CLUBS AND THEIR COUNTRY. THEY PLAY THIS WONDERFUL GAME, FROM THEIR HEARTS.
ONE THING THAT I HAVE GREATLY ADMIRED SINCE WATCHING SIMON FROM THE AGE OF 12/13YRS ARE THE FOLLOWERS OF HOCKEY. THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING THERE, FOR HELPING TO WAVE THE FLAGS, ETC. THE APRES HOCKEY IS JUST WONDERFUL.
SO LETS HOPE THAT THE GAME OF HOCKEY, BEING PLAYED FOR 'OUR' COUNTRY, (ENGLAND, WALES, SCOTLAND AND NORTHERN IRELAND) CAN CONTINUE. PLEASE CAN WE NOT SUPPORT EACH OTHER.
WHEN SIMON WENT TO HIS FIRST OLYMPIC GAMES WE SPOKE TO HIM ABOUT MEDALS, AND I CAN REMEMBER HIM SAYING THAT THERE ARE 10,000 OLYMPIANS, 500 MEDALS AND YOU WANT ONE OF THEM! SIMON WASN'T LUCKEY.
PLEASE WHO EVER YOU ARE LET US SUPPORT EACH OTHER, GET TOGETHER FOR YOURSELVES AND 'OUR COUNTRY' AND BRING HOME A MEDAL.
OUR FONDEST LOVE IN YOUR RETIREMENT SIMON, AND OUR LOVE TO JACKIE AND OUR GRANDSON SAM.
AND THIS I WRITE FROM MY HEART!!
MUM AND GODDERS AND BRO' CRAIG.XX
P.S. LOVE TO CHARLIE OSCROFT.X

Worlds best
Only God knows who will save GB and England in the future. I would imagine that even God is struggling to answer this one.
Simon - contratulations to if not, probably one of the best goalkeepers in the world the game has seen.
Good luck for the future.

A great athlete - a true sportsman and the best ambassador the game could have - always encouraging to younger keepers - and an inspiration to all hockey players.

MRS MASON
I'm sorry to have to let you know, but hockey is governed and contrlled by faceless plonkers who are ALL only in it for their own personal gain.
I ranked your son Simon in the top 3 goalies in world and I have played at every level over the past 30 plus years and still going strong.

I agree with you. As and when J Lee achieves success with the national team, they will crawl out of the woodwork and claim the credit. However if it goes the other way (and god forbid) they will be noticeable by their absence. ALL of them are only in it for their own personal gain, as already voiced earlier on this site.

When i was a junior goalie full of potential i was confused at all the senior coaches telling me what to do. Simon coached me a few sessions one afternoon and taught me loads. Fantastic coach, great way of dealing with people, taught me things simply in his manner that i now try to use when i coach kids.
Top bloke, great player. He wont remember me at all but i still just want to say thanks!!!

Thanks Si
Missed this bit of news (now living in the field hockey vacuum that is Canada). Good Luck in the future Simon. I remember playing a few games with you for Leeds Uni, and I was always incredibly impressed with the dedication and sacrifices that went along with great natural talent to build an outstanding career. You were and are a class act. All the best mate.
