Penalty Corners: Canada 20, Venezuela 0
After the very disappointing and frustrating loss to Mexico yesterday it was clear that goal difference could become a major factor in Pool B placement. So Canada came out with a job to do and played 70 minutes of controlled pressured hockey and Venezuela were never given a chance. Connor Robertson was in the Canada goal and only touched the ball three times when returning it from behind the end line. Canada took total control of the midfield and was able to build one constructive attack after another. All the forwards combined well together and there was some very neat passing leaving the Venezuela defence totally out positioned. The midfield and defence also combined well and added to the scoring. Dave Jameson (6), Jonathan Roberts (5) and Philip Wright (3) were the principle scorers. Gonsalves and D?Almeida did not play today.
Game 3: Sunday February 20 Canada 2 Trinidad & Tobago 0 (half time: Canada 1 Trindad & Tobago 0)
Minute 7 Field Goal - Philip Wright unassisted
Minute 47 Penalty Corner ? Mark Pearson assisted by Jonathan Roberts
Penalty Corners: Canada 6, T & T 3
A must win game for Canada and they came out hard and pressed early. In the second minute Canada was awarded their first penalty corner and the ball appeared to be stopped on the line by a foot ? a long corner was given.
Canada continued to press and in the 7th minute Philip Wright scored an excellent goal after a solo run down the left, he cut into the circle and sent a hard, low shot, into the far corner of the net. This was just the start they needed, however despite long spells of pressure and three more penalty corners Canada failed to score. In the 25th minute T & T were awarded a penalty corner and with Patrick Mackey beaten Jonathan Roberts made an awesome stick save on the line.
Canada continued to press at the start of the second half and Phil Wright and Mark Pearson both came close. In minute 47 Canada was awarded a penalty corner and Mark Pearson, following up on a shot by Jonathan Roberts, scored.
T & T never really threatened and in minute 58 David D?Almeida and Philip Wright came close. Canada needs to win against Chile in their next game.

Canada v T&T
Certainly not the game I saw. With more consistent umpiring and a bit of luck the score line may have been even. Canada were defending for long periods so to say T&T never threatened is erroneous.

What ever happened to Canada beating these countries buy 8 or 10, with one eye closed? T&T? With our coaching and training regime in Vancouver? Looks like Chile is going to win the head-to-head? I hope not! Come on boys!

Broken Backboards
Anyone think that there should be a mercy rule?
I mean if you have to go out there and pump 25 goals in against a team to make the playoffs you think that they might be discouraged to come back again?
Not faulting Canada here they do what they have to but the overall effect of this has to be bad. Its embarrasing to put this in the newspaper even if you are the winning side......
