Canada started strongly and pressed hard in the opening minutes. However, Mexico had the first chance in the 10th minute but goalie Patrick Mackey came out well to save in a one on one situation. Canada were playing good controlled hockey and in the 18th minute, following a well taken free hit on the 25 yd line by Anthony Wright, Mark Pearson collected neatly on his reverse stick, turned across goal and put a nice goal in for Canada. Mexico fought back and had 4 penalty corners in 4 minutes. In minute 32, Canada were awarded two penalty corners in quick succession and from the second corner, Jonathan Roberts scored an excellent goal, well stick stopped by Anthony Wright.
Minute 34 Mexico were awarded two penalty corners, which were well saved, the second resulted in a fast breakaway for Canada, which ended with Mark Pearson firing just wide.
Canada started the second half strongly and in the 3rd minute Harp Virdi forced an excellent save from the Mexico keeper from a high hard shot. In the 46th minute Mexico was awarded a penalty corner and scored with a well taken option.
Canada now started to get a little ragged in defense and allowed Mexico to run at them at speed down the middle. Mexico won two more penalty corners, the second coming with a yellow card for Rohan Gonsalves. Mexico scored from the resulting penalty corner.
Following good work by Scott Tupper in the 60th minute Canada was awarded their 3rd penalty corner of the half but it was well saved.
In minute 67, Mexico was awarded a penalty corner following what seemed a very fair tackle outside the circle and Jonathan Roberts also received a yellow card, Mexico scored.
Mexico were awarded two further penalty corners in the last 3 minutes, one when Canada came within five yards when Mexico took a free hit by the corner post and were clearly trying to run down time.
A disappointing result, however Canada can now go on and win the rest of their games.

first game trend?
Has anyone else noticed that this team has had poor first games when on tour? On both of the previous tours, they have started with poor matches and then gathered momentum. Let's hope this wasn't a crucial time to have started slowly. Perhaps the coaching staff should be addressing the "first game" issue for the next event.

What bad luck. Canada came out hard and pressed but didn't score. The goalie played well. But then some questionable calls resulted in two goals. Why does Canada always get done in by poor umpiring. Now "Canada can now go on and win the rest of their games." Uhhh, change "can"' to "must"[end sarcasm]
Quite a different take on the game than the one written by PAHF....

ministry of information
way to go FHC you think you are doing the boys any favours by releasing this propaganda?
"Mexico were awarded two further penalty corners in the last 3 minutes, one when Canada came within five yards when Mexico took a free hit by the corner post and were clearly trying to run down time"
what?
I support canada no matter what but FHC constant misinformation is embarrasing

Blame Yourself
Stop blaming the umpires. Umpires make bad calls but players make bad traps, decisions, passes, shots, etc. throughout the game. The only people to blame is yourself/the team if you were to lose. Deal with it and move on. Period
