The eighth men's Pan-American Junior Championship, with 12 teams taking part, starts on Wednesday at the Antonio Maceo Sports Center in Santiago de Las Vegas.

This tournament will qualify the top three teams for the Junior World Championship to be held from June 29 to July 10 this year in Rotterdam, Holland. However, the participation of Dominican Republic is not confirmed due to the lack of funds to travel to Cuba. Nevertheless, the programme will not be changed and the team who were scheduled to play Dominican Republic will have a bye.

The teams will be divided in two zones of six teams each:

Zone A: Argentina, Barbados, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and United States.

Zone B: Canada, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela.

The final will take place on Sunday February 27 at 4pm.

As the stadium has not lights, the Pan-American Hockey Federation was obliged to modify the programme, then four matches per day will be played, instead of six as it was originally scheduled.

balance of the Pools
Even without a weak team like the Dominican Republic, the balance of the Pools is bad.....Pool A is much tougher than Pool B. I see a Cuba/Argentina final. Too bad Jamaica wasn't in Pool B.

Dominican Republic withdrawal
Dominican Republic really sucks...for the third time they donīt show up at a tournament, it unbalances the Pools, 5 and 6 teams and also takes away a spot for the Americas at the Junior World Cup, because there is only 11 teams playing now....
For how much longer is this going to happen... sanction the country.

Response to Pool Balance
This no longer a pick in the playground as to who makes it into a group, this is international competition. There is no reason to complain about group selection. If your team is skilled, prepared, and ready for world titles you should be honoured to be put in a group with Argentina. This should be considered an opportunity start proving yourself as an international force to be reckoned with.

I don't expect much from T&T, but good luck to them anyway. If most of the Mexican team is made up of the guys from Pan Am Cup last year they could be a suprise performer.

Ha! What did I tell you guys about Mexico? Chile put them in their place in the 2nd game, but I did say that they had at least one suprise result in them. T&T has given us some hope with the win against PR, but they must at least draw with Canada to have any realistic hope of getting into the semifinal. We'll see how that goes.

well dwolfman..good to know that you now lend some support to us only after finding out about the good result against puerto rico...in the future make your support of us a little more genuine because the remarks that we got and are still getting from home are not helping with the spirit of the team

Perhaps you need to concentrate on playing hockey instead of crying about what we are saying here in Trinidad. No time to be a cry baby when you have 15 other players and a technical staff who should be supporting you there and they are the ones whose opinion count. You guys lack the international experience to compete against some of the more experienced teams in this tournament. That said, most of us here would like for you guys to be competitive even if we don't expect it.

As for lending support only after the Puerto Rico game learn to read and then comprehend. All your result against PR did was make me more hopeful. It didn't make me support you guys any more or any less. When next you get a chance pick up an Oxford dictionary and learn the difference between being hopeful and lending support. Even after your asinine post T&T has always had my support. What I've been posting about on this site is my expectations, which aren't particularly high. I hope the rest of the team is worrying about their own performance, which they can control, instead of wining about what people in T&T think, which they can't.

This is international hockey, not dolly house.
