South China Premier League

The Final Four are finalised in China's Premier Club hockey championship, with HKFC taking the final berth on offer, earlier today. The final four for the April play-off series are Guangdong China, Shaheen (Hong Kong ), Macau, and HKFC (Hong Kong).

As with most stages of the South China League, it came down to the final match with Asahi Valley keeping things interesting, as enjoyed a 5 match winning streak towards the end of the season. Earlier today Valley trashed SSSC 5-0 to put themselves ahead of Club on goal difference. SSSC had lead the League at the midway point in December, but fell away like a lead ballon in the New Year.

KCC started today's vital match with HKFC the better, and went ahead early from a penalty corner, before Chris Marshall restored parity, just prior to half-time.

Western Australian veteran Sandy Barblett, was only called into the depleted HKFC side for today because key players; Brad Munt, Marius Ankum, and Zaki Detta were away, scored two brilliant field goals to secure a very hard-fought, 3-1 win.

For season 2000 Champions KCC, it was an entire season without a single win, and they now face possible relegation, for the first time in over 20 years.

SCPL 2005

Asahi Valley 5 SSSC 0
HKFC 3 KCC 1

As has been said before this is incorrect. Confirmation of the finals system by HKHA was made on Sunday after the Valley game. It will take the following format. The top three sides Shaheen, Macau and Club will playoff in a round robin. The bottom four sides will also playoff. The top of the bottom four clubs will compete in a single playoff against the bottom of the top three sides. The winner of that game will join Guandong and the top two sides in the playoffs is April. I wouldn't want to be the side that has to play Valley in the Playoff's as they will get thrashed.

If eliminatd clubs get a 2nd shot and HKHA try and change the league to get another HK club in the play-off Macau WILL quit. We hope this is not true.....no one could be that "mickey mouse".....

Good to see the veteran Sandy Barblett putting a couple in the back of the net. It has been a long time between drinks for the old fella. Former teammates and supporters in Western Australia wish that he had shown some of the same form 20 years ago.

At least the Valley guys didn't change clubs after their team didn't make the top 4...that is the real joke.

Good to see nothing has changed - see you next season to shut the Valley critics up and show them it is possible to drink the GNP of a small African country and play strong hockey at the same time!

The playoff system is correct. Valley has not had its full strength side all season. All people playing have some connection to the club, having met a person from Valley all over the world. The best part is we have a great time and still are better players than the pretenders from Shaheen and Macau etc. This will be shown when we are in the playoff's......

Veteran Sandy Barblett
I cant believe that Sandy Barblett is still around. I remember him playing for the NT representative side in Australia in the late 1980's - thats how long he has been around for. I recall that back then he scored more goals off the field then on the field. He was so good at Hockey in Darwin that he was always in demand with the nice girls. I wonder if that is the case now that he is a veteran.

The Sandbar as we used to call him (due to his ability to block the exit of any young lass that didn't like his forced tonguey methodology) is back. Munty might find it difficult to get back in the side with such a talent unleashed. Has anyone asked him how he is able to stay in Hong Kong given his legal "issues" back in Florida?

Valley the best in HK? Maybe if you quit wearing rugby shorts to hockey games you might even look like a proper team! Here's a suggestion-how about bringing in some decent imports instead of bringing in cack? There's already plenty of it in HK- Ollie is the only half decent player to come from abroad-the rest are totally over-rated and have only come over because they were officially shi_t from wherever they came from originally-typical HK to get all excited about random Aussies/ Kiwis with few genuine credentials...There is only one class Kiwi in the league and he doesn't play for Valley!

Can you back up your statements with actual facts about where these players come from, congratulations, you are an idiot. Yes they booze it up alot, and they have not had a full team until the last few matches, and look at thier results this year, lost to Shaheen (undermaned) beat Club, drew with Macau and have recently thumped KCC, Pak A and SSSC with a combined goal total of 18 goals for and 1 against. How could you possibly deem these players no good. Valley will win everything this year, no doubt, and then they will have the last laugh. These so called local hero's of HK hockey are weak and insignificant, they can't match up physically. Arif is a second rate drag flicker and Farooq just hits everyball that comes near him. Macau are the dirtiest team in the competition but as long as they keep bringing their own ump they'll get away with it. Let's see what the next few weeks bring.

Ollie is not a bad player, but by no means class...and he is the only half-decent player to come from abroad that plays for Valley, you monkey! I wouldn't start dishing chat about "eloquence" either when you use such descriptive words as "poo," and phrases like "grow a brain you dum idiot!" (Which was so offensive, by the way!) HK hockey is rubbish because there are squit teams like Valley in the league, not because there aren't any decent local players...I think what you are trying to say is that Valley is even more "poo" without your imports...hmmm...who is local from the Valley team?

re: all Valley braggers
Oh! Well done, you lost to Shaheen, beat Club ("undermaned"(I mean Club, not Valley), beat SSSC (not a win since Christmas), beat KCC (not a win this season), beat Pak A (little better than KCC) and have one half decent result against Macau...so that makes Vally the cream of the month, does it? If Valley folk continue to brag about a series of shody wins then they ought to expect a verbal bashing on this site. You've never been a good side, aren't one now, and never will be if you think you are going in the right direction at the moment...all the self praise we are reading here is simply laughable! You don't gain bragging rights until the day you actually manage to put a piece of siverware in your watering hole...erm...I mean clubhouse...Yes, you are right...I can't back up where these players are from-where are they from? Do tell...or are they really from the oblivious corners of the hockey world? Arif has proven himself at international level and doesn't need to prove to anyone in the Valley team of his abilities, and I'd sooner have Farooq in my team than any of the Valley defence, even though he is twice the age of them all. What's funny is that you seem to think the Valley players actually match the Shaheen players when you don't even touch half of them as hockey players...yes...the local players from little Hong Kong are miles ahead of the random imports from nowhere in the Valley team...(That might be why they are holding all the silverware, pehaps?)

Looking for a club
Hi! My name is Wayne. I play for this really, really amazing club called Loogaboora. You might have heard of it, because there are some amazing players who have won some big international festival tournaments including the Tazmania 4-a-side mixed hockey shag-fest, the Tonga 10s rugby/hockey 48 hours drinkathon tourney and the local 6th division competition (er, well we were finalists in the 7 team competition). I feel proud to have played along side, Buck "the brick-hitter" Watson, and Billy Singh (he's Indian, by the way-really good hockey players the Indians). To cut a long story short, I would like to come to Hong Kong to play for Valley. I will undoubtedly be able to help you win the Guru Nanak tournament, as well as the Easter 9's. I will also bring kit over from Loogaboora where the stick company Asastick factory is and sell them at really reasonable prices. So how's about it, fellas?

Gentlemen, let the hockey do the talking.

Anybody can still win the league, literally, so how bout you go out and spend time on the field preparing rather than running your mouths off on an Internet website.

HKFC played some brilliant hockey against SSSC and Shaheen, Valley are the form side at the moment with 5 in a row, and Shaheen now have enough HK internationals to field 2 full sides and theres no doubting their quality. Stories of foreign imports, club switching, illegal players, drinking habits and dirty umpires are now irrelevent. Let's just enjoy some damn hockey, isn't that what we're here for?

That 11 that "hockey fan" chose is a joke. Yeah...you've got the regulars who are always there or there abouts but the new players you have put in the squad are not good players. Vicky? Ian? Darshan? How did you manage to put 4 guys from KCC in a squad of 16 when they haven't even won a game all year. They have no experience and simply aren't good enough. I completely agree that Farooq should not be in the squad though. It is ridiculous that he is even training with the national team at the moment. It is horrible playing at the back with him because you constantly have to do his running around for him. He has been a great player in the past but he should have the grace to step down and pave the way for new players. I really think that Mustafa should be included in the squad...he is not ready now but can replace Farooq if he stops playing like a fairy all the time. Kieran is not ready yet but his time will come. Ian still has a lot to prove-you need more than a Mantell disguised pass to be a good player I'm afraid. Zaki and Naveed in the starting line up? Er...who are you kidding? And Satpal...I'm not completely convinced...but I guess he should be in the squad.

ER...
Dont think there is loyalty in hk hockey. So just make money and whoever pay u more, just play for them.As long as you dont change your nationality i think its fine.Hong Kong PLAYERS are more loyal to their national team than the club as the league is a waste of time with no quality players around.Good luck Hong Kong team.Dont get these comments affect You..They must be Valley people again as they are very free at home or office going online finding why to write bad about Hong Kong players.Am i right almighty VALLEY???

hi
Players can join any club whenever they like unless they have signed a contract. Even M. Owen can join Real Madrid so can we. it's not as bad as lurking overseas players with money to come to hk to help win the league (and sadly, unsuccessful!) It's not a professional league! so fu and have a nice dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Gentlemen, please enjoy hockey, playing and watching...
too much useless comment here dont help in Hong Kong hockey. Perhaps if you think you do better than any official of HKHA, then stand for committe, or even President.
