Oman: Muscat Festival hockey begins at Seeb tomorrow

Thirteen teams will vie for honours in the Muscat Festival Open Six-A-Side Hockey Championship organised by the Oman Hockey Association from tomorrow. The tournament will be held on the specially created pitch, near the seaside of the Seeb Beach Park.
The rules adopted for the tournament will similar to the ones used for playing indoor hockey.
The matches, which will be played on Thursdays and Fridays will be held from morning to evening and the duration of each match will be thirty minutes with a five-minute interval.
Attractive prizes are in the offing with the winners gaining RO700 and prize-money, while the runners-up walking home with a RO500 purse. The third placed team will get RO300.
Only dribble and push will be allowed during the match and even during the penalty corner conversion the player can only push the ball. For penalty strokes the rules state that the player can push, scoop or flick the ball.
Late arrival at the venue (maximum ten minutes) and withdrawal means the defaulting team will be considered 2-0 losers. If the teams pulls out of two consecutive matches the entire results will be nullified.
Muscat Club, Seeb Club and Bausher Club have entered fray with two teams each, while the other teams taking part are Oman Club, Sami Abdul Aziz Jafar Co, Dubai International Co, Sports4All, Al Dhaber Establishment, Royal Navy of Oman and SAF Engineering Corps.
The teams have been divided into four groups — A, B, C and D — with Group A having four teams in fray.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinal knockout, which will be held on February 10. The semifinals and the final will be played on February 11.
Following are the complete fixtures of the matches to be played on February 3 and 4 according to the groupings:
Group A (Bausher A, Sports4All, Oman Club, Dubai International):
Feb 3 — Bausher ‘A’ vs Dubai International (9am); Sports4All vs Oman Club (9.30am); Bausher A vs Oman Club (3.30pm); Dubai International vs Sports4All (4.10pm).
Feb 4 — Bausher ‘A’ vs Sports4All (9am); Oman Club vs Dubai International (9.30am).
Group B (Seeb ‘A’, SAF Engineering Corps, Seeb ‘B’):
Feb 3: Seeb A vs SAF (10.30am); Seeb ‘B’ vs Seeb ‘A’(11.15am); SAF vs Seeb ‘B’ (5pm).
Group C (Bausher B, RNO, Sami Abdul Aziz):
Feb 4: Bausher B vs RNO (10.30am); Sami Abdul vs Bausher B (3.40pm); RNO vs Sami Abdul (5.10pm).
Group D (Muscat B, Al Dhaber Est, Muscat A):
Feb 4: Muscat B vs Al Dhaber (3pm); Muscat A vs Muscat B (4.30pm); Al Dhaber vs Muscat A (6pm).
Quarterfinals: February 10 from 9am to 12pm.
Semifinals: February 10, 4.30pm and 5.10pm
Third place playoff: February 11, 3.30pm
Final: February 11, 4.10pm.
