Cuba will host the 8th Pan-American Junior Field Hockey Cup for men in February
According to Cuban experts, players from 12 countries will attend the tournament, at which two teams will qualify for the World Cup in the Netherlands.
The Cuban team will play in Group A, along with Barbados, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Argentina and the United States. Group B is made up of Puerto Rico, Chile, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada and Mexico.
The tournament will be held under the all-around system, and the two first teams in each group will qualify for the second phase.
In order to compete in the Pan-American tournament, Cuba is training a 24-strong team from where 16 players will make the national team.
The experts said that it will be a tough competition in which the United States, Chile, Barbados and Argentina will be Cuba's strongest rivals.

Jr. Pan Ams
It seems that the experts have left the Candians out as potential rivals. Canada is sending a fairly strong side and has obviously been overlooked.

Funny how Canada always gets left out of the mix. Let's not forget that it was the Canadians not Castro who killed Kennedy. The Crazy Canucks will turn some heads, as I'm sure the umpiring will.

Left Out?
Interesting ratings, with Canada being forgotten. The Canucks should be 2nd seed behing ARGY. Unless the Cubans field a few 25 yr. olds like the last Junior qualifier,
Then add Cuba to the mix. The Cubans play a tough physical brand of Hockey that may trouble all the teams, except Argentina.

the pitch
I hear the pitch is in really bad shape.....when Argentina bailed out of hosting why didn't they move the tournament to the Dominican Republic so that brand new pitch installed for the Pan Am Games could be used?
Also, why are the two best teams in the Tournament...Argentina and Cuba...in the same half of the draw....it would have made more sense to swap Cuba and Chile to balance the draws.

Draw
Willie, how can you say that "Argentina and Cuba are the two best teams in the Tournament"?
I agree for Argentina: they are consistently above the rest of the Americas, men or women, junior or senior. But have you seen the Cuban Juniors play lately?
The Junior Pan Am Championships are only every 4 years (as a qualifier for the Junior World Cups) and there are very few (if any...) junior internationals in between. So I guess the rankings had to be based on the last tournament in Chile (2000):
1) Argentina
2) Chile
3) Canada
4) USA
5) Barbados
6) Mexico
7) Trinidad & Tobago
8) Venezuela
9) Paraguay
10) Puerto Rico
(Cuba didn't enter)

We'll see Argentina and Chile play for gold.
Canada should have a tough match against the locals for bronze.
