The Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) has halted the transfer of five players from Mombasa Sports Club to Mvita IX after they were found to have double-signed.
KHU secretary-general, Peter Kiruma, said Collins Githae, Wycliffe Ndola, Willy Ndege, Joshua Njogu and Jeremiah Odongo cannot play for their new club until the matter is resolved.
"The players risk being left out for one season for double signing," Kiruma told The Standard yesterday.
Githae, Ndola, Ndege and Njogu moved from Mombasa Youngsters to MSC during the official transfer period that ended last month.
Odongo on the other hand joined MSC.
"Our rules on transfers clearly states that any person found guilty of double signing should be left out for one season," the official said.
Kiruma, however, said the fates of the players will be decided during a fixtures and competition committee meeting in Nairobi on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Mombasa Institute (MI) has been declared Coast Province’s representative in the 2005 Premier League.
Institute were declared as the qualifiers for the top league after MSC forfeited their play-off matches over the weekend.
The depleted MSC forfeited the play-off when KHU turned down their request for more time to put their house in order following the departure of five key players.
"The union could not afford to postpone the play-off as their (MSC) notice was too short," the official said.
MSC and MI were to meet in two play-off matches, on home and away basis, to determine who would be promoted to the Premier League.
Elsewhere, Armed Forces women team has until Saturday to confirm their participation in the national league.
Kiruma said the union would look for a replacement if the team fails to communicate by Saturday.
And plans for the coaching and umpiring course set for this weekend at Thika High School are complete.
Avtar Singh Sohal and Mike Omondi, who are international and national coach respectively, will be in charge of coaches while Federation of International Hockey (FIH) class umpires Shiraz Yakub and MS Binepal will be in charge of umpires.
