Defending first division hockey champions GCC, were held to a 2-2 draw by arch rivals Everest Hikers when the two teams clashed in a fixture of the 2001 season Farfan and Mendes sponsored-First Division tournament at the GCC ground on Monday.

Two members of the Fernandes brothers clan, Steven and Phillip Fernandes found the back of the net for GCC in the 12th minute of the first half and the 22nd minute of the second session respectively, while Devin Munroe and Jerry Bell found the target for Hikers in the 26th minute of the first period and the 28th minute of the second half respectively.
Steven Fernandes found the net after winning the ball from a scrimmage in the circle. But 14 minutes later, Alex Gouveia tried a shot to GCC's goal, the ball rebounded off the custodian and Munroe made it right with a powerful shot from close up.

The two teams continued their assault on each other's goal and both secured a short corner each which they made right. GCC's came in the 22nd minute of the second period and saw Phillip `Fat Boy' Fernandes converting with a flick to give his team the lead once again.

Six minutes later, Bell responded in like manner.

GCC will now meet Police tomorrow at the Eve Leary ground from 4.45 p.m. The umpires are Gregory Sills and Jerry Bell, while Hikers will face last year's Farfan and Mendes runners-up Old Fort on Sunday at the Everest ground from 8.30 a.m. (Back to top)
