The England Under 21 Men’s Hockey team were in Gibraltar for a training camp between December 13th and 17th.
The squad had just been selected to represent England in the Junior World Cup in Rotterdam in July next year when they will be up against other leading hockey playing countries, including Spain, and this was the first of many training events leading up to the major tournament held every four years. Preparation will also take the squad to Poland and Kuala Lumpur over the next six months. Gibraltar was an ideal venue offering warm weather conditions, far from the frost and cold wet rain the players had left behind in England.

The Gibraltar Hockey Association were excellent hosts and justifiably proud of their new facilities which include a water based pitch and stadium that should be finally completed in February next year.

As part of the Rock’s 300th anniversary celebrations, England played two games against the Gibraltar national team, the scores being one-nil and three-one in England’s favour. It was a good test of the England team’s abilities and both victories were hard won.

A reception was held for both teams on the Wednesday evening at the former Commander General’s house where the Gibraltar Minister for Culture and Sport spoke to the players and presented a gift in recognition of the visit.

The young players and their coaches expressed their desire to return to Gib in view of the hospitality extended to the team.

U21's training camps
In your article on the U21's training camp, although you mentioned that they would be visiting Poland and Kuala Lumpur, (though now I am lead to understand that these have been cancelled and a trip to Malaysia at Easter is now to be undertaken) you omitted to state that the squad would be travelling to Pretoria, S. Africa where they are at this moment in time.

Yes Liz that's right.

The U21 squad will now be visiting Malaysia instead of Kuala Lumpur.

LOL! Sorry... just passing by and happened to catch these two posts here!

I'm sure other readers must have been amused to read the slight confusion here... espcecially on the part of the aptly named "Geography" poster!

Just to put the record straight for Liz and ... ahem... Geography... Kuala Lumpur IS the Capital of Malaysia!!
