Macau stretched their lead at the top of the South China Premier League Hockey, with a 3-2 win over bottom placed KCC, at Kings Park on Sunday. Macau now have 12 points and lead the table, as the preliminary stage moves into the second round.
What is most remarkable about Macau's success is not only the fact that they were running dead last, most on last season, is that they are without any training ground or home ground (Taipa Hockey Stadium). "The hockey ground has been closed for several months due to the construction works close bye, at the main stadium, which is being rebuilt for the 2005 East Asian Games", according to Macau Hockey President, Frederico Nolasco. Macau has played all matches away, so far this season.
In other matches SSSC continued their good run, with a scrappy 4-2 win over Valley. Valley's defence suffered badly with New Zealander, Olly Love being suspended for two matches.
HKFC rebounded after 2 previous losses, with a 4-2 win of the HK Pakistan Assn. Hong Kong captain, Farooq Saeed became the latest of 4 players, to defect mid-week to the Shaheen Club, leaving the Pakistan club's back four, in tatters. The Pakistan Assn's new imports failed to fire.
HKFC's forwards Zaki Deta and Chris Marshall exploited the holes in the Pakistani defence, while Ravi Dillon had a strong game at the back for Club.
