Hyderabad, Nov. 4. (PTI): China defeated Korea 3-2 by an extra-time golden goal to annex the Asian women junior (U-21) title while India trounced Japan 2-0 to take the bronze medal here today.

Li Li Wen scored the winner penalty stroke earned in the extra-time after the two teams were locked at 2-2 after the regulation period.

The eventual champions, in fact, twice clawed back into the game as the defending champions took the lead through Kim Jong Eun and Park Mih Yun in the 14th and 37th minute.

Cheng Jia Yan (36th) and Li Hung Xia (47th) kept China in the hunt by restoring parity.

The Koreans then messed up two golden chances at the goal mouth in the extra-time before Li sealed the fate of the match.

Earlier, India put behind the disappointing show in the league stage to beat Japan in the third place play-off.

The hosts, who had gone down to the same opponent 2-3 in the league phase, scored on either side of the half time to avenge the defeat.

Soy Fulmani put India ahead in the 3rd minute and Deepika increased the lead to 2-0 in the closing minutes of the play.

welcome to the fools' paradise !!
That's indian sports journalism for beginners.
Ostrich-headed, disdainful of other countries' progress
and success, living in the past. If you read the words they use
in any of their reports about an
indian hockey win, you will be fooled into thinking that
the likes of Dhyan Chand and KDS Babu were playing.
I wonder if the author of this article is S. Thyagarajan
himself. Sounds much like in his line.

NOT THYAGRAJAN
I'm certain. But I agree the adjective is definitely a hyperbole!
The title could well have read "Finally Some respite"

Not suprised !
I am not at all suprised at the Chinese being winners and many congrats to the chinese team .

Infact , the Chinese ladies will be a force to be reckoned with in the future , as they have taken over from the koreans.

Only 4 Teams
Singapore can't participate in the tournament as this period happens to be the preparation period for their year end examinations and most of the girls are either in Junior Colleges or Universities. Thus, it was rather tough to assemble amidst the exams blues.

Not sure about Malaysia but I believe that the Ramandan period might have deterred them from participating as well...

Well, what happens to teams like Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka etc? Is this another pathetic sight for the poor development of hockey in Asia again. I really wonder what's AHF doing all these years with the development of Asia Hockey???

When AHF is run by Azlan Shah and Sultan Ting -Tong,King of nothing, where do you expect Asian hockey to go? You have a problem when Indians or Pakistanis come in and take charge and then have the gall to ask about what happens to Asian hockey?

Here is the answer : It becomes an elite sport that has only 120 players per country and the fan following is 10X.

Request soembody from India or Pakistan to take over and you will see the difference. No wonder Macau has an FIH Master coach but SriLanka, Bangladesh, Burma, Japan, Malaysia have no indigenous ones.
