A HAT-TRICK by Jerry Bell piloted Everest Hikers to a 4-1 victory over Police in the latest match of the Far & Mendes first division hockey competition, played last Wednesday at Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road.

Bell, whose hat-trick was the first for the season, opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a reverse deflection goal from a pass 25 yards out by Robert Fernandes.

Everest Hikers led 1-0 at half-time.

Ten minutes into the second half, Bell sent his team further ahead from a short corner and made it 3-0, beating three defenders in the process, 10 minutes later.

Police pulled back a goal within the next five minutes when Kobina Forbes deflected a hard pass from a free hit by Shaul Nurse.

Shane Samuels sealed the issue for Everest Hikers just before game time after receiving a pass from Timothy McIntosh.

Everest Hikers were also successful in the John Fernandes Insurance Services Limited second division competition, recording a 2-0 win over the cops on Friday.

Jerry Marques, the brother of Jerry Bell, netted both goals, one in each half of play.

The final game in the second division competition is set for Wednesday with Everest Hikers taking on Old Fort at Everest from 16:45 hrs. The umpires are Troy Peters and Damon Woodruffe.

Old Forte lead the points standings with 13 points from five games; GCC have 10 from the maximum six; Hikers seven from five and Police one from six.

The semi-finals are set for Friday with Old Fort battling with Police at Everest and Hikers opposing GCC at GCC. Both matches start at 16:45 hrs.
