Fatima had mixed results in the 2004 Colfire Invitational Indoor Hockey Tournament on Saturday night, earning a win, a loss and a draw in the Men's Open and Under-21 divisions.
In Men's Open play, Fatima were on the losing end against Paragon, who ran past them for a comfortable 7-3 win thanks mainly to a beaver-trick from Kiel Murray. Sheldon Mc Kellar had a double and Kestor Paul one goal for Paragon, while Fatima got one goal each from Derek Lee, Colvin Young and Shane Newallo.
In their Under-21 Men match-up, Fatima "A" had two strikes from David Lee, and one from Marlon King to hold Queen's Park to a 3-3 draw, after being locked at 2-2 at the interval. Queen's Park got their items from Stephen Luces, Mathew Tang Nian and Stefan Mouttet, who had one goal apiece.
Among the Open Women, Malvern downed Raiders 6-2, Oire Trotman and Rose Ann Reyes both doing the damage with a treble each. Celia Cropper beat the Malvern 'keeper twice to get Raiders' two goals.
And Queen's Park got past Chinese in their encounter, lead by a hat-trick from Nicholas Govia , and one goal each from Gary Chin and Sheldo Cockburn. Sean Nivet scored two for Chinese, and Roger Chin had the other item.
In the knockout competition, Christina Abreau found the net three times for Ventures, and Pauline Joseph twice, as they pipped Raiders 6-5, after the teams were level at half-time . Cathy Govia had the other goal from Venture, while Cropper (two goals), Tonya James (two) and Suzette Pierre (one) scored for Raiders.
Despite their opponents outscoring them 4-3 in the second half, Paragon also advanced at the expense of Fatima, thanks to a 4-0 cushion in the opening period. Keston Paul had three items for Paragon, and Kiel Murray had a double, while Chesterfield Sealey and Sherbert Mc Kie had one each. Dean Nieves was the lone scorer for Fatima, notching four goals.
The Paragon women also advanced to the next round, this time against Malvern, with Kristin Thompson's two goals, as well as goals from Vhenise Elliot and Avion Ashton pushing them to the 4-2 win. Shurlan Cabralis and Roseann Reyes had one goal each for Malvern.
The Malvern men however had a better outing than the women, turning back Queen's Park in a high scoring 9-8 after a 4-4 half-time score. Five goals from Albert Marcano, and three from Wayne Legerton, as well as one from Colin Byron meant the difference against Queen's Park, who had four goals from Nicholas Govia, as well as one each from Peter Kam, Derek Tang Nian, Paul Weekes and Raphael Govia.
In Friday's other match, the Chinese men's lone goal in the first half helped them overcome Notre Dame 7-6, both team scoring six goals each in the second half. Goalscorers from Chinese were Ryan Marchok (three), D Young, Jason Annan, Colin Boodoo and Lee Yum TomPack. Keith De Peza with three goals, Kenneth Whiteman with two and Sean Olton with a solitary item seplied for Notre Dame.
