Eight Barbadians will soon fly to England to spend the next year playing hockey while also taking advantage of some educational opportunities.
This interest in Bajan hockey players was fuelled by the individual performances of members of the Barbados men?s team at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
As a result, Rodney Legall and Rodney Phillips, were invited to play at Timperley Club near Manchester last year, and now, Kregg Franklin, Patrina Brathwaite, Lana Als and Dionne Clarke are also heading to Britain.
Franklin will be continuing his accounting degree course at London Metropolitan University, whileplaying hockey for the university and National League Premier DivisionClub Canterbury.
Empire?s forward Brathwaite will be enrolling at the same university on a hockey scholarship arranged with thehelp of Trinidad and Tobago?sKwandayne Browne.
Empire teammates Dionne Clarke and Lana Als will be playing at Harrogate University. Phillips is hoping to return to Timperley while YMCA?s Stephen Franklin has arranged a contract with midland?sclub Leek, who were here on tourlast month.
