Hockey umpire Armajit Singh will be the sole Malaysian on the pitch of the Athens Olympics hockey competitions.
He is among the 15 umpires from the elite group of 20 from the world panel of umpires who will handle matches in the Games.
Armajit, who turned 40 last week, will leave for Rome today for a one-week refresher and training course before moving to Athens on Aug 12. It will be his second appearance in the Olympics after Sydney 2000.
Amarjit has been an umpire for the last 20 years and among the major international tournaments that he has officiated in are two World Cups – Eindhoven 1998 and Kuala Lumpur 2002.
His last international duty was at the Olympic qualifiers in Madrid in March.
