The Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) Women's Division will begin its Open League Five-a-Side competition series over two weekends starting today. The competition, which will be staged on a round-robin basis, will be played on Saturdays and Sundays with matches beginning at 3:00 pm.
Matches will be played on an adjusted half of the regular field and will last for 35 minutes, inclusive of a half-time break of five minutes. Each team will consist of five players per game with a maximum of eight registered players.
This competition will be different from any other played before in Jamaica. Teams will enter the competition with either a handicap or an advantage depending on their strength and experience. A team comprising players with less than three years' experience will have a two-goal advantage to start the game when playing a team consisting of players who represented the country or players with more than three years' experience. The experienced/strong team will enter such games with not only a two-goal deficit, but must outscore their opponent by two clear goals to register a win.
The weekend events will also include "One-N-One" and "Penalty Stroke" competitions during the intervals.
At the end of this competition the JHF Women will be focusing on hosting an indoor-outdoor tournament to be played at the Mona Hockey Field, followed by other indoor competitions to be played at venues to be confirmed.
