The Kenya Hockey Union will hold their annual general meeting on September 19.

Nashon Randiek, the KHU secretary, said provincial associations have to select their officials by August 31. Randiek, however, said that it was not clear under what constitution the elections will be held.

"We forwarded an amended constitution to the Kenya National Sports Council and up to now we have not received any acknowledgement," he said.

"They need to advise us because our part of the issue has been honoured. KNSC should have had the courtesy to write back and advise us."

Randiek said KHU would not object to new provincial associations taking part in the annual general meeting as long as they were properly registered. "This was one of the issues at the last elections," he said.

Provinces that have sought affiliation are Armed Forces, universities, Western and North Eastern. Rift Valley had requested to be split into two for easier administration.

Randiek said the KHU chairman, Hardev Singh, was not likely to seek re-election.

- The Africa club championships will be held in Abuja, Nigeria from October 1 to 10.

Two Kenyan clubs - Armed Forces and Telkom - have been invited. They have up to August 9 to pay Sh29,600 entry fee.

Two teams are on standby in case the two league champions fail to travel.

They are Nairobi Simba Union and Blue Eaglets. Randiek said Blue Eaglets, who received their invitation letter on Sunday, have up to August 16 to confirm their participation.

- It is unlikely that Kenya will send a team to the Africa under-21 championship in South Africa and Egypt in September.

Randiek said the KHU wrote to the government for financial assistance.

"Entry was subject to government releasing funds totalling to about Sh4 million, but this being an Olympic year, it is near impossible to raise this amount," Randiek said.

- This weekend, the KHU season ends with the Premier League finals at the Nairobi Simba Union on Saturday and Sunday. Armed Forces play Wazalendo and Kenya Police tackle Nairobi Simba Union from 2 pm on Saturday at Nairobi Simba Union Club in the semi finals before the final on Sunday.

- The inaugural East Africa club championship will be held in Uganda from September 25 to October 2. Clubs from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Zanzibar have been invited.

- The amusement park being constructed at City Park Stadium is a fund-raising project for the laying of a new astro turf surface at the stadium, the KHU has said.

The union denied claims of turning Kenya's only hockey stadium into an entertainment park.

A union official who did not want to be named said the project would raise part of the Sh16 million required for laying the astro turf.

KHU Elections
Now that the current KHU Secretary has conceded to the fact that they have two constitutions of which they dont know which one will be used for elections, arent they courting trouble already by declaring that elections shall be held when the constitution matter has not been resolved. I see another set of protracted battle that will finally sink Kenyan Hockey and give it to the Dogs. BTW, if the elections shall be simply to endorse Rehsam Bains as the Chair, then these cannot be termed elections but selections and we dont need such for Kenyan hockey.

The hockey fratternity must rise now and get the officials we deserve or forever our hockey shall die.
