Telkom Kenya are the 2003-2004 Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) women's national league champions.

The indomitable Telkom beat Sliders 2-0 in a hotly contested play-of final match yesterday at Barclays Bank Sport Club, Ruaraka, to retain the title for the eighth time running.

Blue Eaglets beat Armed Forces 3-1 in the third place play-off duel that preceded the final at the venue.

Telkom scored the match opener in the 18th minute when Jackline Ogot latched onto Rose Mbulo's rebound to score.

The score came when, in a desperate bid to save Mbulo's long range drive, Sliders' goalkeeper, Jane Kimani, punched the ball into Ogot's path who made no mistake.

The match, played under extreme dusty conditions, saw Telkom carry the 1-0 lead to half time.

From the breather, Sliders took the game to Telkom, pinning them in their own half.

Sliders' strikers in Nancy Chepchumba, Caragh Evans, Dorsillah Agunda and Joyce Kirimi created chances but good goalkeeping by Josephine Ataro frustrated their efforts.

Telkom gained composure in the final minutes of the match and it came as no surprise when Ogot scored the second goal in the 54th minute to record a double.

The victors would have scored again in the 64th and 66th minutes but Judy Opiyo and Rose Mbulo shot wide.

Telkom coach, Sande Mukhwana said the presence of Mbulo in the midfield strengthened the team. The player missed the semi-final tie against Armed Forces. Telkom won 2-1.
