For the first time in history, Brazil will host an international hockey competition. On 28th July to 01st August, Brazil will host the "II Mercosul Indoor Hockey Tournament under 18" in Florianópolis - Santa Catarina, in the south of the country.
Following the development plan to increase the number of hockey players, for the first time Brazil will compete with a women team. In this particulary, almost all the girls are from Florianópolis, where the coach Claudio Rocha is working on development hockey since the beggining of this year. There are girls from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo on the team, where hockey is also played.
"The girls are just starting to learn the basics, but I expect that they make good games against the other teams" - Claudio Rocha said.
Women hockey is just starting in Brazil, and this is the first international competition for the brazilian girls.
On the other hand, almost all the players of the men's team are from São Paulo, but there are also players from Florianópolis and Rio de Janeiro. The men's coach is Bruno Patricio, who is also a national team player.
"The boys are trainning hard, and I believe that they can make tough games against all teams" - Bruno Patricio said.
The following countries are confirmed to compete at the II Mercosul Indoor Hockey Tournament:
women: Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile and Paraguai
men: Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Peru and Paraguai"

Congratulations on growing Indoor Hockey
To see all these countries sending teams for a junior indoor tournament is fantastic. My congratulations to the hosts for pulling this together. it is a pity that some of these countires could not get teams to the second Pan Am Indoor Championships which are coming up next week in Venezuela.
The organiser of the Pan Am, Rene Granat, has done a great job under tough circumstances rounding up a good field of five men's and four women's teams. It is great to see more indoor being played in the americas.
I look forward to seeing the results of both tournaments

Congratulations South America
It is important to hockey that south america promote more hockey competitions. Doing this, surely there will be more people playing hockey.
My contratulations to all south america countries, in special to the host nation Brazil. Indoor hockey is getting more and more important on hockey community.
Hockey has potential to be one of the four more practiced sports in the world.

Just the beginning
I would like to congratulate the Brazilian Hockey Association (ABH) and its members (Claudio Rocha, Bruno Patricio, Alexandre Caldas, Joao Felipe Sauerbronn, Ricardo von Staa and Filipe Reis just to name a few) for all the work done.
After only two years enjoying the recognition of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, they were able to drastically increase the number of players, create junior teams, play the 2nd MPAC, and finally will host an international competition this month.
I strongly recommend anyone to travel and watch this tournament closely. It will be a great opportunity to appreciate not only great hockey games but also a lovely city.
As I stated in the subject, this is only the beginning of a long journey for the ABH. Another major point of this journey is already defined as the 2007 Pan American Games will be played on Rio de Janeiro.
Once again, congratulations to you all.

Who wants to be a Brazilionaire?
I fully beleive that Brazil will scare some of the more established nations in the region, and finish in a strong position.
There are some fantastic young players coming through, with a couple of great coaches, and I'm sure they will flourish on home ground.
The future is looking good. Bring on 2007!!!
Vamos galera!!

See you in Floripa!
Vamos vibrar, time!! Continuarei gritando.
