The Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) has turned its attention to prep schools as part of its drive to revitalise the sport.
It is planning all-day camps for the next four Saturdays - July 10, July 17, July 24 and July 31 - and according to organisers initial response suggests that the schools are enthusiastic.
Camps will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on the artificial turf at Mona and should help to pave the way for the planned Inter-Preparatory School Mini Hockey competition in October this year. The aim is to have a minimum of 12, but ideally 20, schools participating in that tournament.
An Inter-Primary School Mini Hockey tournament is also in the pipeline for 2005, according to the JHF.
Organisers say registration forms are available at prep schools holding summer schools during the upcoming week and at the JHF Headquarters, Mona Road.
If forms are completed and submitted to the JHF by 4:00 pm on Friday, July 9, the registration fee is $400. Thereafter, the fees will be $500.
Registration forms can be collected at the JHF office between 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Thursday and Friday.
Fees will cover participation in the camp, the use of equipment, a camp T-shirt, and refreshment. Lunch and snacks will be on sale.
